Do they have the retaining clip like most 60s/70s/80s cars do? My removal tool isn't engaging the clip and it's hard to see behind the handle with he door panel in the way! This is on my '54. Any tricks you guys know of? Thanks in advance!
I pushed in on the panel inserted the hooked one in the clip and gave it a slight tug. http://www.harborfreight.com/4-piece-pick-and-hook-set-66836.html
I use a standard clip removing tool, keep the tool inline with the handle, forget which way but it should come off without a fight.
I couldn't get the special tool to work on mine either. Probably because I bought a ****py tool from Advance auto parts. I usually just take a long pick and I can usually hook the clip with the pick and yank back on it and it pulls out. A flatblade screwdriver can be helpful in the process too. It's a pain in the ***, but I've been successful so far.
you will need to turn your radar tracking device to locate the clip when using the hook tool.in all my years of removing them there was always 2 or 3 or more that took off just when I felt I had it under control.the secret words that brodie mentioned are **************X and a few others I am not familiar with
