I ran into a problem after installing a firewall-mounted master cylinder - a problem that I should have seen coming, but am embarr***ed to admit I didn't. I took the air cleaner off the carb so I'd have more room to work. When I was done, I went to reinstall the air cleaner, and it won't clear the new master. It is close, but it catches the master just before reaching the carb. Does anyone know of a smaller/different shape air cleaner that I could look into? I thought about using a silicone coupler to lift it up just enough to clear, but I think that will cause it to interfere with the hood. This is on the stock motor and carb, btw. Any suggestions? I ran into same issue on a 6-cylinder 60-66 chev pickup with big booster etc. I don't know if it works on that car, but I used a stock GM truck aircleaner maybe a bit newer? from a wrecking yard,... that has the air cleaner on the p*** side of valve cover, and a squished looking crossover oval pipe to the carb. I just don't recall if it was a big truck?, but it was stock GM, and I think late 60s-very early 70s It had a bolted on bracket on the p*** side of head, for the aircleaner body. The part on the carb top was a short, very flat 90 degree elbow. .
'47 - mid '50s Chev pickup standard size oil bath. If your carb has auto. choke, check for clearance. There's also a tiny dry one made pre-war, but it isn't much more than a "look what I found" thing.
this is off a 57 chevy p***enger car with a 235. it will be on the drivers side. btw its for sale 75$ plus shipping
The dry-element truck air filter from a 216 is a popular choice that can still be found. (Seen here cleared, but black tops when stock). Check E-Bay.
