TECH: Air Cleaner from swap meet parts.

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by flt-blk, Jan 28, 2006.

  1. I've been thinking about what air cleaner I want to run on my SBC that would look good with the curved top Call Custom valve covers, most aftermarket air cleaners have the fins, but are flat on top.

The scoop has a a little bit of a curve, and looks great, but what about an air cleaner that has the EXACT same curve, the EXACT same fins and fits a simple, relaible 4 bbl. carb?

    Viola!

Photochop of a CCVCs, grafted together, shortened about 4" and sides added that look kinda like the scoop. cast in about a 10" round flat boss to the inside and use it as a top to a cheapo auto parts store air cleaner base.

Whatcha think? Worth the trouble of making a mold and having a few cast?

Why not just split a Valve cover in half and use the sides with that same
insert int the middle. Then it would exactly match the. :)

WOW nice job. Been looking to avoid those boring flat chrome things. Thanks for the inspiration!

    Great tech tip!

I have some vintage Cal Custom finned valve covers and have been looking for a cool air cleaner that is different than what is readily available via mail order.
