If it ain't broke don't fix it. Usually I like this saying but I was under my 54 and dropped the tank to replace it. I decided that the diff was being neglected and should get some fair treatment by means of fresh fluids. Well it wasn't leaking before but now it does. I only removed the drain plug and the fill plug and I checked both. They seem tight. Is there a gasket or washer I lost some how?

Pull the fill plug and put some Teflon tape on the threads, put back in. Pull drain plug and put a cork in it not to lose fluid, tape plug and put back. Inspect the plugs for small cracks and if you wanna get fancy put a little dye in the diff. Also how much gear oil did you replenish it with?

That's a good plan, thanks sunliner! I might just drain it again and instead of try to stop the flow. When I filled it is had it on my level garage floor and filled to the bottom of the fill hole. A little dripped out and after it stop dripping out I really capped it.

Did the same thing, teflon and all a while back but I still get a drop every once in while.
