Guys yet again I need help. Ive got a neighbors buick and Im juuuuuuust about to have it ready to fire up but it wont start. Theyve replaced the gas pedal crank with a push ****on. From my research its simply taking place of the accelerator switch however, Im not getting any crank out of it.

Ive got power running to the start relay, AND running to the NSS (neutral safety switch), but Im not getting power out of the switch, and thus not to the push ****on for the starter.

So electrical stuff isnt my forte but, can I simply connect the two wires I need to at the neutral safety switch to see if that in fact os the problem or am I overlooking something inherently wrong with that idea?

    Thanks for any help guys

I ***ume you tried moving the shifter back and forth to rub the contacts. It can be done but then you have to be careful not to start it in gear or it will move. I would do it on my own vehicle or on someone else's vehicle to test it but I would not leave it like that for someone else to drive. It might be difficult to find a replacement switch. Some of those can be opened and the contacts cleaned up. The peg could be broken or out of place. The switch usually has slotted mounting holes. You can check to see if the screws came loose and the switch moved out of position.

That was absolutely it guys, I pulled it and looked for a "new one" but hen that failed I decided to dissect. Ended up the two contacts had worn aay leaving holes, so I popped an aluminum rivet in each hole creating a new contact. Smoothed everything up and shes cranking like a big girl now.

Cool beans on that mod. I had a 55 Special in 1966/67 that is still one of my all time favorite cars that I owned. I cheated though, I put an engine out of a big old Super Sedan in it and it would run a lot of cars that thought they were fast into the ground.
