I love it! I have been telling people for years that one day I was going to buy a Camaro and put a Ford engine in it just to piss everybody off.
Very nice! I bet the scrubby guys are thoroughly pissed about that! I'd love to build a 57 Chevy with a blown y block.
Nice car. I've never, ever understood the brand loyalty thing (and this is coming from the guy who runs the 54 Ford Club). Back before the clever marketing in the 60's that convinced people to be slavishly loyal to a brand, the norm was for hotrodders to put all sorts of drivetrains into all sorts of cars. Four-banger Chevies into roadsters, suspension and steering components from Whippets and Franklins....you name it. That's what hotrodding is....finding a way to make your old stuff better and faster. Getting all worked up about keeping a Ford in a Ford or a Chevy in a Chevy is childish and silly. Now, some swaps make more sense (like a 302 in a 54 Ford) because they fit better and some swaps make more sense for resale value, but for the sheer hotrodding value of things, the best thing to put into your car is often what's available, what makes your car better and what you like. Like this 55....it's just cool....and the brand-worshipers know it.
I disagree with brand loyalty being childish and silly. Of course opinions are what make everyone unique and different, and we are all en***led to our own.
A hopped-up 312 would make anything cooler....from an old roadster, to a vintage Camaro, to a Toyota Camry!
Think about it....they're not loyal to you. If you get creamed by a train today (God-forbid), they won't know...or care. Loyalty is for things that reciprocate it....like your family or a good dog, or your buds....not for brands.
And, based on use what you got, the rat rod is born. This ford/chevy is a prime example, but, for sure it is more "finished". Thanks for the reference to this article and fine ride. 51 merc, 54 olds v8, lasalle ******, low enough to hit man hole covers. Aaahhhhh, those were the days. Had to park away from the curb or the door would not open.
I would've given just about anything to be standing by that to hear the comments when it was unveiled. Love it!
I guess our wagon is about the closest I have ever come to staying brand loyal, this time I used a Ford engine, transmission and rear end instead of the tried and true go to run of the mill 350/35o combo I have used so many times in the past. I did slip in a coupe of Chevy items,a cut down drive shaft from a pickup and a GM alternator. other make parts was Nissan windshield rubber to help seal the fixed gl*** in the rear. I also used a couple of Oneida salad s****s too. HRP
Yes Danny....and that Ford/Chevy/Nissan/Oneida hybrid wagon of yours is about as *****in' as anything I've ever seen...or had the pleasure of riding in. Oh...and don't forget the Tupperware plastic you used. So...to correct myself....your Ford/Chevy/Nissan/Tupperware/Oneida hybrid wagon....
Tried and true 350/350? Never understood those words. A 302/C4 is just as reliable and probably less work to put in a Ford than a Chevy in a Ford.
