Big Block Chevy's have rat rods.....8 of 'em. I have a hot rod. I ran 18 inche Astro van spares (5 on 5 bolt pattern). They are cheap and plentiful. Paint them red and you'll have on rad Rat Rod Bro!

If your building a "rat rodz" go here
    www.olskoolrodz.com

If your building a traditional, or traditional themed HOT ROD or CUSTOM then stick around a learn something. Rat Rodz, ol skwel and such aren't really looked upon too highly in this forum.

If you don't like your existing stock wheels there are options, there isn't a specific wheel everyone is using, infact there isn't much of the same thing people use. Use what you think looks good on your car, not what the latest fad is. If you do like doing what the latest fad is then please move along and save us the time to give you advice, since next week you'll probably doing something else.
Also use the search ****on at the top before you ask what brand of flat black to use:rolleyes: .

In my opinion, Rat rods denote something that was thrown together with no thought on style ,safety or useabillity. It has become a phrase that is used generously to describe a vehicle that is not finished to whatever the person thinks is their standard.
Most homebuilt owners do not appreciate being lumped in a Rat Rod genre simply because they are satisfied with their cars and the progress they are making. I personally don't get too excited as I understand that it is just lack of knowledge and for some is bordering on jealousy.
You will get more help and cause less heartburn for yourself if you learn to use another term when describing unfinished or traditional style cars.
Thats my story and I'm sticking to it.

He's a lowrider/mintruck convertee ~ Hell, he's still got a mini AND a '68 Caddy DeVille, (I'm betting the Caddy is... dare I say what color).

I'm thinking he's in it for all the wrong reasons to begin with.

Ok, I checked and it's NOT flat black. Maybe there is hope for this one.

You should scour a junkyard to find what wheel "fits" your style. Look at 1/2 ton ford stock wheels, they will most likely work best with your bullet look and lug pattern. If you want a tall (18") but narrow rim steel spares would be your best bet, they can be narrowed if you'd like. There was a thread on narrowing wheels two weeks ago.

ford trucks used 5 on 5.5" bolt pattern...chevy trucks since 1971 used 5 on 5" bolt pattern, as did many cars (full size Fords, Caddys, Olds, early 70s Chevys, etc). But you have to go back to the 60s-50s full size GM cars to find neat looking wheels with the 5 on 5" pattern. Watch the offsets though! especiall on those wierd Buick wheels
