  1. Phttttt The most important thing to consider is what Pomade should you use. I still like the stuff with the roses on the jar myself. :p :D :D :D

    I don't care for the look of "smoothie" chrome wheels. They just loose something over the old chrome reverse or even chrome non-reverse with the hub cap bumps and slots around the hoop/center joint.
    With or without baby moons , they just look wrong.
    BTW I've seen repro with the bumps and slots but in a Ford pattern, anyone making the old style in a 5x 4.75 Chev pattern?

    I never liked the appliance "cragar" style ones either and never owned any but if a set had came along and I was looking for a set of something, I may have given them a shot??? I never liked the look of the stamped steel around the lug nut area even tho they may have been safer than some of the better looking ones.........I also may have came closer to doing it if I had needed a set of 4 lug ones like these, for something weird and/or post 65:D

    I see what you did there...

    Interesting thing on those, if recess in the spoke is painted they are a pretty good facsimile of the Foresight Indy 500 Speed Wheel, it would look even closer if the area around the lugs was painted, except one of the best aspects of the Speed Wheels and Drag Mags was the smooth ramp up from the bead area to the spokes.

    theres always one:rolleyes:...This is a traditional hot rod site, that means a lot of guys focus on trying to make their cars look like they were built back when, after all that IS the name of the game here...so get over it.

    Certainly not traditional in the 50's, I think American D-spokes with the darker gray centers are the coolest wheels ever and the look good on 98 percent of all cars, any year, any style. Along with 50's Halibrands (of all varieties), certain wheels are timeless, IMHO. I've even see TTDs on a mid-70s Mercedes roadster and they still look fantastic! (Hurley Haywood's personal ride at Daytona in the mid-1970s). Early 50's-wise, I'd vote for Hallibrand kidney beans (lakes style like on the T-birds that ran on Ormond / Daytona sand) as the best in form and function, hands down. Gary

    Hamlet/Omlette.... 250 yards is a good measure, as is 100 yards.... I prefer, " I could see it's wrong from outer space"! Or, as an alternate, "Wrong as salami ice cream"...

    Some friends and I have always described this as the "Walmart Tire center (substitute Discount Tire) is closing in 15 minutes, ya better make a decision" syndrome... Not sure it's curable.

    Sport mags! I did the same wheels about the same time for my avatar. I had always wanted a set of the real things, but money never works that way for me. since we have bought ours, other companies have knocked it off a bit closer, but I still love mine, and they don't look bad.

    Well, I don't see that happening, at least not in my little corner of the world considering the fact that I've been a "wheel whore" for 47 of my 62 year car guy existence.
    I've bought more than one set of wheels before even owning the car that they would ultimately end up on. My wife says I'm wheel and tire poor and she would rather have bought some new furniture (a lot) when I bought my last set of Halibrands.
    Damn, women can be so narrow minded!

    That company actually owns the Halibrand name and they do have the original patterns and core boxes and are still making and selling wheels. The reason that the wheels look different is that the original Halibrands are magnesium. Pretty much any aluminum alloy suitable for wheels looks the same when polished but mag has a warmer look.

    I have to agree on the rounded spoke being better BUT I will never hate the new ones because the old ones are running very thin and until they decide to make the new ones like they did before ,I am glad those are available rather than none. If we don't like them we don't have to buy them and a rusty flakey pair are not better to me than a pair that are not as desireable as the early ones. I feel the same way about the torque thrust II`s . We live in a tighter economy now and tooling and suppliers dictate results a lot of the time.

    I honestly think this has a lot to do with many guys not knowing too much about tire and wheel sizing, and relying on a tire store "expert" for their help. Unfortunately, I find tire store experts to usually be sharp at stock passenger car fitments, and even size interchanges, but rarely what looks right on a custom built car, especially one that they have never seen before 9AM this morning.

    The other one that drives me completely nuts, is the guys that REFUSE to run anything can't be bought at Walmart or Discount tire. I have told a customer that he needed a 155X15 front tire, and that it could be had in Firestone, Nanking, or Michelin through Coker, because that is all that would look right. He comes back a day later and proudly tells me I was full of shit, as the kid at Discount got him tires that are exactly the same.... 185/65X15s that looked like they belonged on a mini truck! Arghhhh!!!! All the work I did to set up a bitchin' stance, Chassis design, fender clearance, suspension design, wheel offsets, etc. all completely destroyed! Owner happy as a clam, but mad at me that his car doesn't have the "impact" I said it would, and hasn't been "featured" anywhere.... Double Freakin' ARGGGHHHHHHHH! I now handle the tire and wheel combo's for the cars build....

    I have had almost every style and size of magnesium wheels and just got rid of my last set. I have been replacing them with aluminum because beside the constant and I mean constant polishing problem, they deteriorate horribly no matter how well or at what dry temperature you store them at . In my opinion the difference in luster does not warrant the headaches they cause . I am glad to be rid of them and won`t be looking back.

    No problem. I'm about to do it a couple more times. Theres a world of difference between "expressing your opinion" and telling guys on a traditional hot rod site to "get over it" when they ask a question about which parts look period correct. That's not really "expressing your opinion" its more like telling people they should conform with YOUR opinion.
    That's one, here comes number 2. D/G with a 428?? SERIOUSLY?? 13x428=5564. What, did you fill the doors and trunk with concrete??
    So I guess its safe to say you really don't give a shit about getting much of ANYTHING right. Which is fine, that's your business, as long as, and heres the biggy, you don't try to interfere with those that DO give a shit about getting it right.:rolleyes:

    It looks like I need to reply here with the lugs I went to. When I bought my new AR Torque thrusts the did NOT have the step style/ washer lugs I expected. They were conical where the lug clamps directly on the aluminum wheel. I did not like this and that I felt there was not enough threads with my stock lugs.
    I found Gorilla Products sold a wheel lug called" E/T Ultra Style Conical where .300" of a "shank" goes below the conical part of the lug and ALL of it is threaded. For my Ford they are 1/2" x 20 thread and can be 1.40", 1.80", 2.40" lengths or open ended. They can be bought with 3/4" or 13/16" heads. Now the cone still clamp onto the wheel directly without a washer but at least I have twice threads that the original ones that I was sold with the wheels.
    You can find these on the Gorilla Products web page under lugs and on my computer page 5 or 6.

    I'd run painted wheels with caps and rings before I'd run any aftermarket wheel that's produced now, except for maybe Radirs Tri Ribs, but they would have to be on the right car.
