I sold an O/T truck on Ebay a few days ago and the guy wants me to send him a copy of the ***le. Is there any way he can screw me if I send him a copy and he never pays me or gets the vehicle? I'm worried there's some way to transfer it into his name with just the VIN or he can counterfeit the ***le or something. Is it normal to ask for a copy of the ***le at auction ending?
Send him a copy with the vin blanked out. And a black line across the part that you sign. You know kinda like our service records were when we came home from SE Aisia.
Photoshop across "copy". He is probably just wanting to make suer it's got a ***le. OR copy it on a xerox amchine. then make xerox the copy about 5 times. so it's good and blurry.
I wouldn't blank out the VIN. He may need it for some reason. BUT, I would use a felt marker and write "SAMPLE ONLY" or "VOID" across it somewhere.
yeah, state wont accept something if they can see it's a fax or a copy... he's just covering his *** sounds like.
I sold a 66 Riviera to a guy in Denmark through EBAY. He needed a copy of the ***le which I provided, had no issues. Do think labeling it as a copy is a good idea though.
When I bought one of my cars on ebay, the guy offered to fax me a copy of the clear ***le before I sent him the money, with it signed over to me. I sent him the money, he mailed me the clear, signed off ***le. I don't think your guy could do too much with a copy, since a ***le search would still show you as the owner, and dmv would probably contact you
Take and write "Copy not transferrable" with a black Sharpie in the Transfer blocks for both the seller and Buyer and also under the VIN # so there is no confusion about it. Dawg
I wouldn't send him a damn thing until you get P-A-I-D! At that point, the ***le would be rightfully his, just like if you sold it to him in person. Until he gives you the money, he doesn't have the right to ask for a bumper bolt... be careful man, the internet can be a shady place.
I think if you put COPY on the copy of the ***le, you'll be in good shape. Perhaps he wants the VIN for a financial ins***ution, to order parts, or to do a background check like Carfax. You can't do **** with just a VIN number. Otherwise, every time you left your car in a parking lot, the VIN could get stolen. He needs a real ***le to get the car in his name so the copy is not going to get you in trouble.
Send him a copy, no big deal. He has to have the truck in his possesion and the original ***le in order for him to do anything. He needs it for insurance, or for getting a loan. Emailing him the VIN number should suffice, but he probably wants to see the ***le to make sure it does not have any leins on it or whatever.
thats me too.... i just sold car on ebay, guy doesnt even get address til he pays in FULL... i dont want car stolen, or any funny bussiness... if he really wants the car he will wait for ***le, he has your info, you dont necessarily have all of his.... dont send him JACK, offer vin or any info he needs... but dont send him jack my guy already sent a $1k deposit, he still gets NOTHING
I don't know the conditions of the sale, but I would never give anybody on ebay anything that could result in iden***y theft. The ideal situation would for you to set a date where he could pay you and you could give him the car and the ***le. If he's already paid, then the ***le is his anyhow, if he hasn't paid, then get some agreeable terms of an actual sale, money for car and ***le.
blank out your address, too. i don't think a copy of the ***le is gonna get him very far but i don't think it's an unreasonable request. he doen't know YOU from ****, either.... you COULD be scammin' HIM for all he knows... road goes both ways, ya know...
Not to beat a dead horse but the VIN should have been on the auction itself. If the bank needs it, get the bank info and call them to get the fax etc. and fax it directly to them. I don't blame him for wanting to see it but I don't blame you for not wanting to. It's a scandelous world... Mootz
On some Michigan ***les, if you photocopy it it comes up on the copy with the word "void" all over it...a hidden watermark or whatecer you call it.
I can't imagine how it works where he is from or where you are from but in good ol MO if i have the vin and your adress and name i can file a mechanics lean against you with an affidavit that I have the vehicle in my possesion. they will issue me a ***le for the vehicle no questions asked. They will contact me telling me that they did so, but you will have no recourse whatsoever, even if you tell them that you still have the vehicle in your possesion. go ahead ask me how I know.
Well, this may all be moot because the buyer has an invalid email address. I tried to send the ***le but it was refused. The fishy part is that it's a 1988 toyota and it sold to someone in Omaha for $610. I have a hard time believing they're going to drive to Michigan to pick it up. I hope they're not thinking MI stands for Missouri. Any Nebraska HAMBers willing to exact some revenge?
Have him send you the FAX and phone # of his bank. Send it there. Shouldn't be a issue. That's the only way I can get a loan for vehicles out of State.
There are some states that do not require a ***le just a Vin he might already have a truck and wants to use your Vin.I do agree with the others he should not get a thing until you get paid.Too many shady people online now a days.If he needs the info for a bank or loan co send it directly to them.Ask him what he needs the info for.
Don't write on the ***le itself..... I know you weren't going to do that, you were going to write copy on the copy. Or, write "Copy of ***le sent to prospective buyer for review only. Not Transferrable."
It's kinda like poker, you have to pay to see the ***le. You should produce the ***le when you get the cash.
