Anyone have any experience with a Edelbrock carburetor? The Summit 600 cfm I have on my engine is just too fat across the board. Plus it gets horrible mileage. I think I'm going to swap it out for a 500 cfm and see how it does. Has anyone used there carbs. Pro? Cons?

In my experience they are relatively trouble free, ran a 600 on a 302 for years, one thing edelbrocks dont seem to like is heat soak, a plastic spacer helped with that

Because of some of the innovations in the Summit Carb the majority of people gain mileage usually 2-3 MPG over an Edelbrock or Holley of the same size, have you done any tuning on it or contacted Summit's Tech advise ? Do you have a fuel pressure regulator ? If bought new don't those come with a tuning DVD?

I've fiddled with it some. I know part if the problem is the size of the cam that's in my engine. I was thinking about changing out the power valve and putting a heavier spring on the vacuum secondaries and maybe even a restrictor kit on the primaries. I just don't want to throw a bunch of money at it and it still be too rich.

I've been running an Edelbrock 600 cfm in my 54 Ford for over a year now. I have a 94 HO 302 and an AOD transmission. The 302 is stock apart for the intake and carb.

At first, my mileage wasn't the best, but I was running 3.90 gears and I was running the metering rods that came with the carburetor. Jeff informed me that the manual choke models like mine had richer metering rods than the automatic choke models, so I swapped them out.

I also swapped out my rear end gears for a set of 3.31's. And finally, kept messing with the idle air screws until they were as lean as I could get them without affecting the engine.

Add all that up and I've ended up getting mileage in the low 20's and I'm happy with that.

Oh yeah....mnfordfan is correct....my Edelbrock wasn't happy until I added a phenolic spacer to keep some of the heat off of it.
