My brother-in-law is getting married and wants to take a picture with his fiance. They will be using my shoebox, but can't decide what would a cool place to take the picture. They have a professional photographer scheduled for this Saturday March 25th and can go anywhere in southern California needed. We looked at a old gas station today in Silverado Canyon as one option. They are planning on using Black and White and would appreciate any suggestions. If you have any ideas and pictures please post. Directions to locations would help also.

    Thanks in advance!

Try, maybe Foothill Blvd. which is old Route 66 from San Bernardino west to the ocean. There may still be buildings left from the old days.

I grew up in Rialto and my parents still live there and right on Foothill blvd just past Acacia is the original TeePee hotels called the Wigwam I think. It's still there and it's been there since the 40's I believe. It was a really popular stop along Route 66 in the 50's. (Foothill is the old Route 66) Anyway, it would make a cool black and white "Period" photo.

There is almost nothing left on Foothill... The old Route 66 stuff died out in the 1980s-90s when all the new stucco homes went up over them...
There are a couple neat spots in this area, like the Wigwam inn and the Cabazon monsters, but I cant imagine much else... Fontana used to have some awsome backdrops, but now they have trackhouses.

Check out some of the route 66 & Americana books that have recent photos... This is your best bet in finding locations. They are few and far apart. I know we also have old abandoned drive-ins that are used for swap meets, but most are run down and pretty trashy. The Ontario Airport still has the cool old terminal from the 1960's and cool old hangers but with security your chances are nill getting to it.

    Good Luck...

Can't beat Carmel's 17 miles Drive overlooking the ocean.

  13. How about Malibu...Zuma Beach parking lot has always been a favorite with the old food stands in the background. Usually empty this time of year.

There is a Ruby's Diner on PCH in Laguna Beach

You can see the location by selecting Laguna Beach in the Pull Down Menu.
    http://www.rubys.com/diners/locations_diners.html

The 50's cars out front are actually part of a display (the cars are "fixed" to the ground and lighted).

The inside is like a 50's diner. (stainless steel, white, and red). A 360 degree tour can be seen here:

After the meal (great hamburgers and shakes) you are real close to the beach and PCH.

    Thanks again,

I think I have seen pictures of the Wigwam. That is a good idea.

Like the McDonalds idea as well.

Any old barns or warehouse out there in So. Cal????

  16. I've seen quite a few car magazines do photo shoots right at the edge of the beach in front of Good Stuff restauraunt in hermosa Beach. The road has a turnaround that goes right to the edge of the strand.

If you wanna get all artsy and ****, try Roy's in Amboy. Kinda the "deserted gas station in the desert" look with a long stretch of road.

Only problem with Wigwam Inn is that they recently added a big wrought iron fence to it, so it doesnt look as vintage as it used to. If you are open to warehouses like you mentioned, the older sections of Ontario, Sen Berdo, LA and Riverside are teaming with them... They are everywhere and are great backdrops. Also, Guasti has a really cool vineyards and winery.

    Good luck...

There used to be an old garage out in Bloomington, called the Bloomington Garage (who'd a thunk it huh?). It was used in an old Hal Ketchum video. I know they moved it but I think I remember still seeing it off the 10 freeway on the north side by Pepper Ave. in Colton I believe. It would make a very cool backdrop for a nostalgic photo.
