Thanks for the concern. I already have a piece of 1inch wide 1/8 inch banding in the lip. Everything is then bolted into the curved "boomerang" supports that go to the support rail in the top of the cowl. We all need to keep safety in mind and we are all prone to overlook something.
I know it has been a while since a post so I will try to get updates in etc over the next week or so. The following is a short update and more in depth stuff to follow. So the problem is that the accel. linkage is originally set up to go to the pass side of the intake. I'm running an Offy intake with 97s and need to have the linkage go to the driver's side. The main problem is the slot where the pedal goes through the firewall is right next to the area where it kicks out so very little real estate. (I know some of you are saying you should have thought of this before paint, but I've done this on my 33 so I was not worried.) Get out your parts since this build is supposed to be 1955-1958 era correct I am using original parts and retaining the original "style" of engineering. The way the original worked is the shaft slipped through this sleeve and the end on the left kept everything from turning as it was captured in the semicircle cutout in the firewall cap. The right side rested in a socket to allow everything to pivot without moving left and right. I cut the end off the shaft and was going to work with it but it just was not a fit that I felt comfortable with. By welding up the cutout in the firewall cap I was able to drill a hole all the way through the cap providing support on both sides of the accelerator pedal arm. (The arm sticks through the firewall and the shaft slips through a loop on the end and they are pinned together.) Using some hinge pin bushings I now have a very precise way to hold the rotating shaft that will not wear out (while I'm alive). Test fit on the firewall Blasted and Primed Installed
Cool build! You have given me some great ideas. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
