History Cool old shop equipment from my late fathers old machine shop....

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by M-train, Sep 13, 2016.

  1. If you're not going to use it, best to let it go to someone who will use it or wants to display it. I have a few of my dad's tool boxes from his Grumman years, like being on hallowed ground when I open one of them. I've left them the way he left them in 1977. I wouldn't mind donating one box to a local aircraft museum so people could see what those guys used for tools day in day out.

Perception is as much about the perceiver as it is the perceived.......

Referred to as "projection" in Psychology. Also, often associated with
lack of comprehension. Both are frequent, in not constant, barriers to
    effective communication in human relationships.

I can't say it any better than what is written here, and won't try, but if someone wants to take this guy's pics and pot them on a new thread, I'll try and dredge up memories of almost 60 years ago as to what these old tools do and related. But this is all I'm typing on this thread.

My Father was a welder for more than 50 years. Cleaning out the garage 20 plus years after his passing we came across his tools. Two of the tool boxes I kept and will never sell as being a mechanic I can use them. Four or five tool boxes full of welding type clamps scribes and hand made specialty hold fixtures that me or my brothers will never use I gave away to a good friend who is a welder fabricator much like my Father. He tells me all the time that when ever he uses one of my Dad's tools he thinks of me as he never had a chance to meet my Father. That to me is what my Father would have wanted someone, a WORKING MAN to use his tools as opposed to having them collect dust in the corner of my garage as a memory. But that's my opinion. Joe

  5. My dad's boxes are all full of clecos, aircraft length drills, phenolic back up blocks, a home grown chuck key holder that may date back to 1945. All sheet metal stuff he used at Fairchild and Grumman. Me and my brother went through them, salvaged the long drills and a few other things, threw out stuff like sugar packs and petrified gum.

I used a Van Norman crank grinder in 1961 on an old Dodge truck. Also some the old brake riveters

The windup on this thread was a little deceptive. I could see through that right from the start. Better to say:

Got some of my Dad's old tools for sale
Don't know what the hell they are
    Anybody interested? Offers?

More than likely someone on the HAMB will give you a fair offer.
    Pretty easy!

^^^^^^^^^who the guy is is not the point of my comment. I know the avatar is NOT Clark Kent, but I do think the avatar is from a classic movie, for whatever that is worth. My comment was in reference to the poster in #37 saying " I could see right through that from the start"

In my opinion, the OP has received a great deal of undeserved criticism for what was a relatively simple thread post. In addition to the "Traditional Police", we have the "Spelling and Grammar Police" and now, apparently, we have developed a contingent of "Proper Emotion" Police. And the latter without the benefit of actually knowing the OP's full intent. What next?
