12.3 litre Opel race car "Green Monster"
Full restauration keeping the original cylinder block from 1998 to 2001.
Due to irreparable leaks a new complete cylinder block was cast under our project management in 2006.
All digitalizations, preparation of parametric data and constructions were instructed by us and partially carried out at Adam Opel AG.
The further processing of the cast blank was also conducted under our direction or directly by us.
Weaknesses in the construction resulting from the historical cir***stances were eliminated without changing the characteristics of the engine.

The two part crank case, the crankschaft and the connecting rods have been also remodelled.
The crankshaft is designed as a built in shaft. Changing the crank pin and the connecting rod bearing is now possible when installed.
The oil pump was built on the existing model reinforced by a second going the opposite direction, thus creating foundation for compressed lubrication.

Stop! This is not my car. It's part of the historic Opel-collection in Rüsselsheim.
The owner of the shop who made the restoration, is a friend of mine.

The valves sticking out of the hood are awesome. Neat car, well done on the restoration!

Watching the valves while driving must be hypnotic...must be automatic intakes?

Steffen that is one beautiful car. You know you are driving something when you see the valves moving, hear the clatter of the lifters and the whine of the gearbox, amazing.

Opel had a very interesting history and I believe it was one of Germany's biggest car manufacturers in the early 1900's. What a great looking car and it must have been a joy to drive. A true time machine.

    Hi Steffen

Nice resto job, i'am, interested in that strange valve train on how the roller rocker opens the valve

Looks like a 'Y ' end open's the valve right above the valve head, do you have any pics of them outside of the engine

    Thanks, DND

Yes, wraymen, the Opel history is amazing. And they were the biggest car maker. Because of this GM baught them in 1928!

Perhaps you must bringe with you some parts for my car ... o_O

Sorry, D.N.D. there are no pics from inside. These are the only ones I have.
Difficult job by the way because cylinderhead and engineblock are one piece.

By the way: I love the two front springs and I'm very happy, that my 29 Chevy has the same suspension-layout.
And I will NOT switch to any Ford axle!

And now "promotion of young ...". I love this pic. The young guy won the German Soapbox Championship and is now on the way to the the World-Soapbox-Finals in USA. Mr. Jörns gives him at the airport some last driving-tipps :)
In the background: the green monster.
