Mny of us and maybe you had this car growing up. It was cheap to buy ,had a in-line 6 cyl and with a split manifold with straight pipes would sound wildalwaysoved the lines and always wondered why people did'nt show more interest in it.Every one has their favorite car. This was mine, now finally they are showing up at car shows, being restored and looking cool. The car is a 49/50/51 Chev coupe Gene
To me, it's like a flathead. Yes, you can make them fast, but you are going to need to open your wallet a LOT wider to keep up with a V8 with the same power.
I had several 49--54 chevy's from hardtops to convertibles. One '51 coupe which I bought from the original owner in 1964 when I live near Long Beach California. I still love them. Tim
Had a stoker '52 hard top powerglide. Can't remember who I bought it from or why.......but......vividly remember spending a day under the shade tree with polishing compound and then wax........light green top, dark green bottom came out like new! Didn't have it long but sure enjoyed it while I did.
Of course Gene, as we speak I have a 235 Chev hanging from my hoist fitting it in a 27 T sedan. Not going to be a speed demon on any level, but will have the cool factor.
I sold my 51 Bus coupe a few months back; I regret it bad. I have a chance to buy it back, but at several grand more than I sold it for. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.
Picking my 235 up from the machine shop for my early 50ish project tomorrow after work. Damn it's going to be a long day at work tomorrow!! Out here in the shop cleaning up and wiping down the engine stand now!
My 1952 Coupe from 1980, found it rotting away in a field, was an old C/G car that ran at PID in the 70's.
Was 5 yrs old waiting in dads 51 for my parents to come out to go for a ride. 1958. Popped it in neutral by mistake and backed into the neighbors 57 Cadillac. Never forget that old car.
The plain Jane business coupes made awesome street rods, lighter than the two door sedans and no back seat.
I've come around to really like them....bought a 52 deluxe from my brother back in '91 and loved it, but it was too rusty for me to keep. Thinking of trading my 32 for a nice one +cash if anyone wants to trade
Never gave 'em a second look forever. Older neighbor (70s) got one a few years ago, 2dr deluxe coupe. Someone had switched it to a 327 coupled to the original iron 'glide in th '60s. I helped him sort a few things out and the thing kinda grew on me. I like 'em now.
LOL I am actually working on a '49 slant back as we speak. I always liked the look of the early '50s chebbys.I think that they lacked popularity at least by the time that I came around because they were a ***** to shove a V8 into. But I think that they have good lines.
I love mine, I bought it from a fellow HAMBer in NJ two years ago. I wanted one ever since I saw Pat Ganahl's Green 52 in Rod and Custom in the late 80's. Had a 49 Fleetline that was just to far gone to save. But this one has been my favorite of all my old cars to date. Just wrapped up and engine swap and now rewiring it. Here it is the day my boys and I Drove up to Jersey to get it. Left at 2 AM so we would get there by 8AM before the previous owner went to church. My boy call it one of our Hot Rod Adventures! Here it is on the ferry to TROG in 2015
Boy Howdy! The one I tinkered with (mentioned above) was a real inventive install, putting it kindly.
Driving my warmed up 235 and 261 with dual 1bbl carbs and dual straight pipes almost every day as my only drivers starting in 1995. Hope to keep them on the road for another 30-40 years. My two dogs are always part of every ride and love it even more than me it seems. To me it's not a lifestyle or coolness factor or old memories, etc. It's more about here and now and how I want that p***ing moment to be and feel like, regardless of judgments and opinions - sweet or nasty. I just know if I have to go anywhere, I don't want it to be any other way. To each his own.
Daily drove my avatar Fall of 2013. Put about 1,000 miles on it after pulling it from a pole barn. Radiator needed rebuilding and output bearings in trans let go. Married fulltime student at that time, had to sell it. Loved that old 216 tho... sounded like my childhood and simpler times every time I cranked it over.
