If this has been posted before, my apologies, Any HAMBer's know this guy? From the Fordbarn: http://www.news.com.au/story/0,10117,18406696-421,00.html?from=rss
That's pretty sad, wife and kids coming up on the crash. It appears to have been a nice 34 roadster, gl***, full-fendered, ifs, etc. Not much left of that fibergl*** after a fire.
this is why i have always felt alittle uneasy riding in a roadster with no rollbar terrible that his family had to watch
Rolled several times! If they hadn't been wearing seatbelts, they might both still be alive. Now that's food for thought eh!
Thats terrible that the kids had to see that. I can't even imagine seeing a family member going like that, let alone my Father when I was 9! That just plain ****s.
Hmmm--I think if 'thrown clear", not only would they have hit the ground at high velocity, the car would likely have rolled over on them...in a Ford roadster, at least the majority of your body is inside, and you have some limited protection unless your head ends up between door top and ground... I hope there's some sort of ****ysis published so we can learn why this happened and what killed those people--then at least the accident may serve to help other rodders do something better. From the account, it doesn't sound like a common driver-error sort of thing--as a flying guess, I would say it sounds like either a suspension locater like a radius rod failed or something happened to a tire that steered them off the road? The only possible good that can come from such a thing is that we might learn how to avoid whatever the problem really was. Horrible.
Were they driving to fast into the curve (more then the roadster could handle) and slid off the hill and rolled ? If there were skid marks it makes me think so.
That just ****s. It really makes you deal with reality. Let's face it guys these are not the safest things in the world. If you are in a early car and you hit anything there just is not much protection. I feel bad for his family. chuck
This type of accident is one of the reasons I run a fuel cell in my hiboy roadster. If my car is inverted at least the fuel will stay contained. I don't run seatbelts in the roadster, although I never drive my late model vehicles without belting up. I intend on installing a rollbar in the hiboy and THEN I will put in belts. I will take my chances with "possibly" being thrown clear before the certainty of being "committed" to ride-out the crash . My sympathies to the families who had to witness such a horrific event.
man, i hate that...especially for the family......in the bigger pic, this just ammunition for the Aussie gubment......making it hard on hot rodders there... can you post a link to the original thread on the barn......i want to see if i recognize his username... dang!
Very, very sad! This is a tragedy. Hope they can figure out what happened so maybe it will help others. Prayers to the family members.
Very, very sad news... My heart go's out to thier family's and friends..i'm at a loss for words.. R.I.P...
That happened quite a few weeks ago. The area is north of Sydney and the roads aren't exactly perfect. Made the news around the country, but thankfully was not 'beaten up' too much by the media. Fact of the matter is, people die every day in similar cir***stances while driving late model cars. Sadly, some days your number is up. You also have to ask why there wasn't a guard rail on a road where there is an embankment. Very sad day for hot rodding indeed. Around the same time another hot rodder lost his life in the south of the state.
