I have a 1940 Ford coupe That was built in the early 70's. It still using the stock frame. It has what appears to be Ch***is engineering split wishbone kit and engine mounts for sbc and TH350 wich is currently in it. Up front it has a dropped axle (not sure of make possibly magnum). A couple winters ago I went thru the front end. New posies reverse eye leaf spring, New shackles, New king pin bushings etc. I would like to install a 200r4 and retain the current front suspension set up. I have did some searching on here with little success. I ran across one thread on this subject posted by a member "okiedokie" but never found what the end result was on his project. Any information on this subject would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

The 200-4r is the same size as the TH350. The transmission mount is several inches back. I've heard that the drive shaft is the same also. Just make sure the TV cable is adjusted right or it will KILL the transmission very quickly. Hope this file helps. tranny_dimensions.jpg

The 40 is on the back burner while I concentrate on a 55 Sunliner. The mods to the lower frame rail are not bad but the wishbone mounts will have to move outside the frame. Roothawg had a thread regarding the same mods. Do a search for that. If I can locate it I will post it on here.

I modified the TH350 mount to accept a Tremec TKO 600 I moved the split bones mounts outboard on the lower plate a bit and had to notch the upper and lower plates to clear the ****** the TH200 should fit easier than the TKO did so its definitely doable.

Notice that the 200R4 and the TH 400 mount is in exactly the same place. Use the Ch***is Engineering bottom mount plate for the TH400 and Bobs yer uncle.
If you had the 6" tail housing on the TH350, you may not even have to change the driveshaft

The mount on the 200r4 is 6 5/8" back from the short shaft TH350

running a 200r4 in my 40 wagon.. but with IFS and a heavily modified x member..

no matter the amount of work the 200r4 swap is WORTH every minute of work..

    I have a 200 in our 46, it had a turbo 350.
It's not a slam dunk, the 200 is the same length but it does not narrow down as fast as the 350!
The split wishbone kit you have will bot work

HI 48ford. Thank you for the feedback. I do realize the current wishbone set up that I am running will not work. I am pretty sure that moving my wishbones outboard a few inches and modifying the x member I can make this happen. My main question is what happens to the front spring when I move the wishbones farther out. wont this make the front of the wishbones become narrower.? So now how about my spring and shackles. Thank you

You have to heat and bend the offending hangers to align them again.
