    Evening all,
Ive got me a what I think is a 55 324 with 57 371 heads, it came from a roadster and Im putting it in a 38 chev coupe.

So im new to these and I think the oil pressure port has been plugged, Ive searched this thread and others for the last few hours and can only see them coming from the oil filter housing.
See below , where should mine be ? Thanks in advance

The filter looks like 49-51 or so.Early engines had a tapped hole on the block just above the filter mount. If you have 371 heads your not going to have much compression.

Thanks , I say its a 55 ish engine from the numbers on the block ( 563922 ), but maybe it has an earlier filter housing, in which case my fix is get hold of a later one. Where did the early engine pull oil px from ?

As for compression who knows, I have run it, but I know the car it came from went good.

This is where the port should be but isnt on mine

You have a late block with a early filter. What is the number on the head on top of the center ex. port?

what is the stamped number on deck surface?

very early blocks had a port just above the filter block,
below the screened port, behind the down draft tube
in the block bell extension in your picture.

I'd pull the filter/regulator block and drill and tap where your arrow is.

one more thing to this list; His 56 numbers are for Jetaway only. If you had a V code higher number than the 55 range, then you have either a 56 stick motor, or a 56 old style Hydramatic 4 speed motor

learn something every day...and I did too on this thread. No idea about housing differences, so I just went to the storage area...

holy ****, look at this one LOL

This came from a wicked-souped up old drag 303 that a local guy here bought from a "divorce-pending" coworker back around 1970. That guy was running it in an genuine survivor drag 55 Chevy !

Anyways, I did some work for the local guy and he gave me a bunch of stuff he wanted gone...this was off his motor. I am using the can on mine, when I change oil and filter next service, so I never looked at it closely.

Look at the old style fitting, made for copper single flare tubing. I just cleaned the fitting to see if it was a ****** screwed in to the hex, but with a mega-power machinist magnifier, it is made one piece for sure.

Cool, on mine that port is the filter byp*** valve, would I get system pressure on the back side of it ?
looking at the galleries that p***age is only under pressure if the filter is blocked.

I have no idea without taking it apart. the odd thing is the size of this fitting. It is too large to be a gauge IMO.

interesting, I've never seen one like it.
although it does make sense if used for pressure reading.
it would show what the engine is getting after filter restriction.
