I have a couple of engines that sit outside all winter on the foggy coast, and every year I find myself filing corroded points to get one running. Can WD-40 be used as a preventative measure sprayed under the cap? What about really sealing off the points by using silicon seal around the cap etc.?
Cant get tp tight here as spark will jump easier in a vacuum. Engine will create a vacuum inside the cap and it will cross fire etc. Try one of these ford boots on ebay for a waterproof cover... http://www.ebay.com/itm/87-93-Ford-...ash=item43f4d8bb27:g:bkwAAOSwDJhXMSll&vxp=mtr
Get one of those little packets of Desiccant and put it inside the Dist. And then put a note on the steering wheel so you don't forget to take it out before starting. Works great
All engines have crankcase pressure of one kind or the other. A flathead orginally had a road draft tube that created a negative crank case pressure at xxx mph and slobered every where when stopped of at idle , The more worn the engine was the worse it slobered. So at 40-50 mph you could have a vacuum inside the distributor. Fords fix for the problem was to add a small hole for a vent.
I know about crank case pressure. is this on flat heads only? dont see how a SBC or most engines, would get a vacuum in the dist. cap from the crank case.
