I put a 350 auto hooked to a 350 Chevy in my car with a B&M slap stick shifter. My question is about the kick down linkage/function. Do I hook it up or just forget about it for this application? Thanks for your feedback.
If you don't hook it up you will have to Manuel shift it every gear. If this is what you want to do then you should put an m22 rock-crusher trans in it. Go with a 4 speed with a pool ball shifter or hook that kick down up...
Ive been reading a lot of posts that say for a 350 its not necessary to hook it up especially if its a very light ride and that it will up shift automatically (but probably quicker than usual) but you will need to shift down manually to compensate for the eliminated kickdown function. There were many guys not running the cable as well as a few saying they recommended still using it so it sounds like it will function either way. For overdrive transmissions it was mandatory to have one and it be properly adjusted or trans failure is eminent..
TH350 has a kickdown linkage, not a Throttle Valve linkage. You can run it without the kickdown cable connected, it will shift early and soft under full throttle conditions, compared to if you have the kickdown. Do whatever you want...it'll work either way, it will work better and last a long time if you do it right and connect the cable.
The TH350's sold by JEGS and SUMMIT, with their name attached, come without the kickdown cable feature. In fact, the hole in the trans rail for the cable is PLUGGED. "Most" guys who delete the kickdown cable have also installed a shift kit, and that somewhat makes up for anything lost by deleting the cable. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.
