Well, I finally got the video posted. Please excuse the garbled sound. It was to loud for the mic on my camera. It really sounds good. David's video has better sound.

Go Gene and Frank..... GO !

Any estimates on how much HP this new engine makes?

  5. I went to see Gene & Ruth today and Gene said he still has a few leaks and is going to have to pass on Myrtle Beach this weekend but should have the Moonlighter running strong for the race at Greer Dragway next month for the season finals.HRP

Gene ... Congrats on getting the new tunnel port engine together and installed. Bet it's going to be killer, and bet it's going to put more of the SE Gassers on the trailer lol.

Spent 4 hours last night reading about half of this thread. Very cool and inspirational . I am 61 now and have been building and customizing cars since my teens , If I make it to 84 I hope I still can pull a few gears and feel 16 again. Thanks Gene and Quain for a great story !! Larry

  8. Sadly Gene was unable to make a pass at the finals in Greer due to a stater problem, there was a lot of help in the pits from the competitors and friends but the problem wasn't corrected at the track.

I was told by Frank that the starter was repaired by a local shop here in Anderson this past week. HRP

I'm late to the party but I couldn't not speak up and say what a cool story and restoration. I love history esp with old hotrods and the men who were there back in the day. Many accolades to you for doing such fine work and much respect to Gene.

Just found this old shot and caption

Anderson, SC’s Gene Cromer ran this ’41 Willys with 427 FE Ford power, then switched to an SOHC 427 Ford for A/Gas. Gene is an ECDT Hall of Fame member. (East Coast Drag Times)

  11. It ought to conservatively make somewhere in the 1.6-1.65 HP or more per inch range, so that's 775-800HP.

JUST CONFIRMED GENE CROMER WILL BE AT SHADY SIDE DRAG WAY APRIL 29TH
Gene Cromer has decided to give his loyal fans another chance to relive the glory days. Not just on display, not a test and tune, Gene will be racing heads up with the very popular Southeast Gassers Association at the historic Shady Side Dragway in Shelby NC April 29th. This is the same car that made Gene famous in the 1960's and was brought out of retirement for the fans and Gene to enjoy again. Come and cheer him on for another win to add to his trophy case.

MOONLIGHTER TO BE IN KNOXVILLE JUNE 10TH
Gene Cromer and the Moonlighter along with over 50 other era correct Southeast Gassers have already pre enter for the big Southeast Gasser race at Knoxville Dragstrip in Knoxville Tenn June 10th. Gene has made a transmission swap and was really looking good his last outing. I think the A/Gas class could have a new winner in Knoxville. BE THERE Gene Cromer 1.jpg

I still have my blue t-shirt, just like Gene and Greg's. Are they towing The Moonlighter with the '40?
