Anyone running the wheel vintique chrome gennie Ford wheels? Curious as to the quality of the chrome and also the bolt patten. For the 4 1/2" pattern they show a 4 1/2' and 4 3/4" universal pattern. Thanks
I've been running them on my coupe for 4 years. Had to send 1 back. The wheel wasn't centered. Other than that, no problems..... Spoons
the chrome, IMHO is the same as ALL chrome wheels available right now...okay. it looks nice, no shadows around the lug holes or anything, but if they are gonna see any corrosive weather, regular cleaning is a must. i have the ford patter oem's on a car, they are not the multi fit wheels like the smoothies, but not exactly like the one in your pic either.
Just got two from WV... the chrome is fine but keep in mind the centers are not chromed/polished around the lug holes. Also, by 'universal pattern' you're not talkign about 10-holers are you? If so, those are 'smoothies' and not 'gennies'... prolly not the look you want.
Actually, A smoothie would not have the slots around the outside edge and the center cap has a different i.d. than the gennie. They both have a "Universal" lug pattern though. ( 10 holes ) this way you can run a ford pattern up front and a chevy rearend.
I bought a set for my Cyclone-hated them. They bend easy. I've never bent a rim in my life but these really don't hold up. Both my front rims are badly bent. The chrome is lousy and yellow near the lug holes. It rusts almost as soon as it gets wet. I had new BF Goodrich radials mounted on them and they had to wear pretty heavy weights. I'm not positive if it was the tires or the wheels, but given the poor quality of the wheels, I'll never buy them again. These are the Wheel Vintiques OEM Chrome wheels 15".
Thanks for the updates - definatly dont want 10 holes. Need 4 1/2" bot pattern for teh rear and 5 1/2" for the front. Any suggestions on someone who makes a 5 hole chrome gennie wheel for a 4 1/2" bolt pattern?
That style of wheel doesn't lend itself too well for chroming. In the recessed areas the chrome won't plate. That's why they have the yellowish areas. That is the exposed nickel, which will also be thin. These are the areas that will rust first. The rule of thumb is the flatter the face and the less recesses or sharp angles, the better it will plate. The deeper the recesses and sharper angles, The worse it will plate.
I have 3 sets of their chrome gennies on 3 different vehicles and I have had no problems with them. I also have a set of their chrome OEs on one car and I have a set of chrome reverse OEs on another. No problems with any of these wheels either.
Polisher, if you see this you might confirm or corrct me. It is possible to get high quality chrome plating in those recesses if a shaped anode is placed near the wheel center to better concentrate or direct the plating effort. I suspect one of the primary reasons for not trying to do a better job of plating these centers is so they'll sell more hub caps.
If you ever buy any wheels from VINTIQUES...check them for wobble or run out!! Mine were so bad I was really surprised! I wanted to return mine... they wanted to send more junk wheels! most people never check there wheels and assume that they are perfect...These were there steel wheels I fineally got my money back since I used my credit card....there customer service was the worst.... I will never buy wheels from VINTIQUES WHAT A JOKE!!!!!
