This is a 30 model A sports coupe we found hanging in a barn. The car is originally an Arizona Car that was brought to Mississippi about 12 years ago and hung in the barn. We bought the car as a project for my dad and I. It's been about 4 years since we finished his 23 T, and we wanted to build an all steel Rod this go around. We got the rear section of a 30 model four door sedan with the car, and decided to make the sports coupe a regular coupe. Hanging when we found it http://www.jalopyjournal.com/mobile-gallery/b2f9b90a73e8dcfa786a41947333ea3d.jpg[ [IMG]http://www.jalopyjournal.com/mobile-gallery/b0ac92789d779a6da660d1fdf770dc61.jpg/IMG] The body is in pretty decent shape for its age with rust in all the normal places. The plan is to sit the body on a set of 32 rails, power will come from a chevy 348. We plan on keeping it simple and throw a few custom touches at it Sent from my SM-N920V using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
One of the first things we did was have the car blasted. Sent from my SM-N920V using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
We started t******* and fitting the sedan roof to the coupe. Sent from my SM-N920V using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
They are a tad lower at the moment. I may go back in and raise them a little. Sent from my SM-N920V using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Very cool. I like what you're doing. Never really understood what Henry was doing with the Sport Coupe thing.
I like what you're doing. I own a sport coupe project. Many times I wish it was a five window coupe! I have no idea what they were thinking of when they designed sport coupes... Why have a cloth top that doesn't fold down? I'll probably be selling my sport coupe; I had plans to skin the top with metal, but make it look like a cloth top... Yeah, the bottom of the rear quarter Windows needs to match that of the doors or it will never look "right". Sent from my iPad using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I think there is nothing wrong with sport coupes. Just different. If you make it a closed coupe, make sure you get that quarter window exactly like an original or every Fordophile will see the goofy window and wrinkle their nose. If you don't care, then continue on.
I wasn't condemning the Sport Coupes by any means, I just didn't understand the reason behind them. I mean you already had Roadsters and Cabriolets and Phaetons and of course all manners of other Coupes and Sedans. It just seemed like Henry was doing everything he could to capture each little niche in the market.
Very creative idea using the sedan parts, I just went though this process with my sport coupe last winter. I lucked out and found a complete 30/31 coupe roof on eBay and grafted it to my 29. Mine had a homemade metal roof on it when I bought it that kind of looked like a skinned cloth top. I looked for several years for a roof , they are kinda hard to come by. I'm very happy with the results.
Sure , I can post some pictures , Please keep the lynch mobs away , This is still a work in progress and is not exactly the typical traditional Hot Rod normally seen here on this forum. This was before and after , I Looked all over the web trying to find pictures of someone doing this conversion , I had a sedan laying around and would have followed your lead if I had seen this post before I found a roof on eBay. I always searched Model A roof for several years.
Not trying to hijack but the sport coupe's seat goes back farther then a regular coupe. It makes for more leg room.
I found this Sport Coupe for sale on Sioux Falls Craigslist today, It has the top just sitting on it from the pics but someone else had the same idea. I didn't buy it or anything , just thought I would show the pictures. I think it looks good.
