I think we have all heard the story...but there is a little old lady in town here who has an all original, and running / driving model a coupe that her husband has owned for years. He died and now she offered the car to me for a yet undisclosed price, but I am sure it would be very cheap for all thats there. But I would be tempted to chop the hell out of it and rod it.....but I feel quite guilty and am thinking about just letting the antiquers and restorers have at it. Anyone else feel the same guilt. Its a GREAT car and would be fun to have something that nice to work with, but cars in this condition are not all that common and I would feel guilty cutting it up. Anyone elses opinion....I was just curious what others did or would do in this scenario thanks, mike K
Hey, This may never come around agian. So at least buy it and drive it then do what you want with it. It might take you a year or so to decide what you want to do with it any way. This chance may not come around- ever...I would buy it. Hope this helps...later
If you can afford it, BUY IT! Drive it stock, see how you like it. Do some upgrades, hop=up the banger, hydraulic brakes, 16" wires, etc. You won't regret it. You can always find another coupe body to cut up.
Like Jesse James on MG said about an El Camino they chopped up, you're doing all the other stock Model A owners a favor by increasing the value of theirs. How's that old saying go...Anyone can build a hot rod, it takes a real man to cut one up. I cut mine up, you can too! Vance
BUY IT......... ........do with it as you please..... There were 4 million Model A's built...... I appreciate the "old car thing " as good as anyone.....maybe more than most, BUT I would most definately BUY IT ....and then let time decide it's fate. If you p*** now........you can never go back. If you get it now.....you can decide at your leisure... .
Buy it, drive it as is while you collect the parts. Luck is where preparation meets opportunity. How many more of these great finds are in your future?
buy it. keep in mind, regrets are forever. chances only last a moment. i'd be all over that like flies on a road apple
What they said. Buy it & enjoy it as-is for a while. Then if you want to cut it all to Hell - do so. If you come to love it too much to cut it up, sell it & use the $$ to buy a body & ch***is you wouldn't mind hacking all to pieces. Nothing is cheap anymore (not even A's) but Lord knows you could flip it & replace it with a suitable project car in a hurry. It sounds like you already appreciate it for what it is. You just might find that a few upgrades would make it a perfect car for you - without cutting it all to pieces. They don't have to be cut all to pieces to be a hot rod remember. If you like it don't let it get away. Keep us posted. JH
There is nothing wrong with stock, you can upgrade brakes etc. and use it. You can always build another car, It is hard to find a clean original.
I think Harrison put it best. I'd buy it and try to get it roadworthy in stock shape. You may find you'll have a blast with it (I miss my stock Model A and if i ever get another i"ll keep it stock). If you decide it's got to be changed at least its drivable while you gather parts and get a build plan in place. A banger with a few upgrades can be a ball to drive. Maybe an upgrade to hydraulic brakes, a flathead, and disc wheels and modern rubber would keep you satisfied. It sure would make a killer ride. Frank
Buy it just so you can have a good before and after picture when you find one you don't mind cutting up.
I'd buy the coupe and "rod" it...speed parts, 16"steelies or wires, maybe a dropped axle...save all the original parts to put back stock Hey Automotive Stud...that's a cool A coupe!
There were a hell of a lot more then 4 mil made. Henry set the single car manufacturing record in 1930 with 4.4 million. If mine wasnt a total rust bucket when I go it, I would have restored it.
You know, if you bought it and put all of those hard to find stock parts you don't need in circulation you would be helping out many Model A restorers, if you buy it and flip it complete you would only be helping out one! Not to mention the buyer could end up turning it into a hot rod anyway, then you'll really be bummed when you see it in your favorite hot rod rag or up here on the hamb! A period correct old time hot rod is as much a part of history as something from the factory, so you can shoo away the guilt fairies with that maybe?
If you know what you are doing, you aren't doing that car any harm by cutting it up! It'll see more road time and be enjoyed more as rod than it ever would as a stocker. If you let the "restorers" have it, it'll just wind up as some god damn parade car that only sees the road once a year and the jack*** who owns will tell all of his freinds that "it's as good thing I saved this car from some kid turning it into a RATROD." I'm so sick or that f 'n word.
Any ***** can keep a car stock, but it takes a guy with real balls to cut the hell out of a perfectly good car. Get it then decide what you want to do with it. My 2 cents
Cut it up....ther is alot of original a's putting and i mean putting around. BURNNNN them bias off w/ a crazy 8 and a 4 speed!!!
If you don't want to cut it up then let me buy it and I will restore it to drive or just drive it the way it is. You can find another that would be hard to restore to original and cut it up. I have always wanted to find a good untouched original A to play with and drive, never done a parade myself because they move way to slow. Bob in northern Indiana
As it is better to give than to recieve - then you should buy it & give it to me & then you would feel better! (so would I!) Gary 4T950 Chevy Guy
theres room in my garage for hotrods AND stock model a's. i have fun with both. anyone who hasnt had the chance to learn the quirks and personality of an old abone is missing out. if drivability is a concern there are updates to steering and brakes that wont change the flavor of a stock appearing a. I know i sound like a resto-**** but i cringe when i see someone take a nicely restored car that someone has put lots of tlc into and turn it into some retarded looking cartoon caricature in the name of one-upping the next rot-rodder. whatever you choose to do, good luck...
I am a restorer, let me have it and then I will chop it and Hot Rod it because that is what I restore old Hot Rods.
