The new hauler - 1967 Ford Econoline Supervan

I am so psyched about this baby. Its been with the same family for the last 30 years as their work van toting portable welding equipment. Hasn't been registered since '91. I've paid for it, just have to pick it up when I return from a work trip in a couple weeks.

I have a pretty vivid image of how I want it to look when I'm finished. Basically like what you see here, except dumped. Kind of a rat-van.

A kustom tail-light treatment might also make the stern as stylin' as the bow.

This model is the illustrious SuperVan. It even has "Supervan" badges on the side. Basically, it has an extra 2 foot bustleback as opposed to the normal van. They're pretty scarce.

Anyone have any suggestions for me? Whaddya think?

    Cheers!

PS I hope you don't mind me posting this here, I know vans aren't typically considered trad. rods & kustoms but I love the ideas y'all come up with.

I would just fix the rust damage, lower it and drive. I think it's sweet. I was looking at a 62 econoline for a bike hauler/Hatermobile, but I was too late, and it sold. Look at early to mid sixties Falcon/comet chrome bumpers, they may fit with a little tweaking.
    Good luck,
    Tito

  3. With that "Bustle"....it almost needs to be a Taildragger.
I'll be interested in some of the ideas that pop up as I have a 60's A-108.

It should handle some powerplant upgrades as the Supervans had 9 inch rearends, I believe, instead of the little Spicer golf cart rearend.

I have been wanting one of those. Not the long one, just a regular econoline. I think some of them actually had a 4 speed on the column too.

Being a work van it likely has a 240 I6. Dump that lump and put a small block in it. It's not too hard to do.

You can get restoration/maintenance parts from MAC at http://www.macsautoparts.com/pu.html

And for idea's and Econoline stuff, ideas and people.... http://www.ford-econoline.com/index.html unfortunenatley they look to be in a site redesign so not much is working.

http://www.wingsisp.com/emboss/econo.htm this site has two V8 swap articles at http://www.wingsisp.com/emboss/swap1.htm and at http://www.wingsisp.com/emboss/swapb1.htm. Plus pics and other stuff. I would love to have a '62-'67 Econoline pickup.

    I like this one.... http://www.cardomain.com/ride/677125

would love to have one too. Buddy of mine still has "wondertruck" 64 econo pickup..had it for about 30 years. Every time i ask him why he wont build it , he just says, "if you're ever in a wreck, you're the first one there"

My old daily driver, a '66 Club Wagon (rough, unfinished, and totally ridiculous):

Long-time HAMB members are surely sick of seeing it.

My Club Wagon had a 240 I-6 and 9" rear. I replaced the engine with a 300, which is a BOLT-IN and a torque monster, so I recommend this over a V8 for ease of installation and low cost.

I always wanted to lower my van, but never got around to it, mainly because I drove it hard, and often needed the ground clearance to destroy things.

I sold it to a fellow in Detroit who then resold it quickly, and I don't know what happened to it.

The Supervans are great haulers. I personally don't like the taillights on the Supers, so consider using something round to match the front or the earlier design. You'll have to address that rust in the rear, so you can take care of it at that time.

Some of those came with 300cu.in or 240 cu.in. either one with an Eaton supercharger turning 3 xs engine speed will make that thing Very respectable. It's an easy setup job. Swap meet prices are two hundred or less.

I chased parts for my dad in one of those (short body) with a 300 six/three speed one summer. I don't think any Cadillac ever beat me away from a stop light.....

  15. Right on. Econolines coming out of the woodwork again...

I just bought a 1967 Econoline van too. I needed a new shop truck and this one already runs with a sbc in it. I'm eyeballing another Super Econoline at a junkyard here in Indy. It's actually a nice van...looks like someone drive it in and parked it. I don't need a second one yet but I might be getting a partner-in-crime and I'd like to keep all the trucks similar. These are cool trucks.

  24. Boones! I met you at a Bessinger's show last year. Glad you're still HAMBin it up. I probably won't make it to the April show, but you will most likely see the free candy van in May.

Thanks for all the advice - I'll keep y'all posted as it develops.

This is the one I just got. $700 with a strong 350/350 and 9 inch plus new exhaust and everything works and it has a clean title. I'm happy. It will look much different very soon.
