In about 90 minutes after finishing packing we are heading off for the Dragens 40th Anniversary Valla Park Rod Run. We have only missed one in the 40 year history and there are many who have attended all.It is a credit to the Dragens that after all these years it is still one of the most important must attend runs on the East Coast. Always fun events to participate in or just hang out at your cabin or van or tent and watch the p***ing parade. Lots of cruising!!! The event is held in a large holiday park with lots of accommodation options and in recent years has transformed form the weekend run to entrants staying a week or more. Usually close to 400 cars and the event where new cars are debuted. Taking the roadster this year and having tonight in Ballina and then meeting friends for breakfast tomorrow an hour down the road at Ferry Park Restaurant. Should roll into Valla around midday on Saturday. So I will try to put up some early photos but may have to wait until we return.
I was heading south from Coolangatta to Sydney yesterday and saw a lot of very nice rods making the journey. Also a few on trailers. Even my non-car sister was commenting on them.
This years Valla had the best weather for many years and a great turnout of cars. There were over 80 "Rookies" which are cars that attend for the first time and mostly new builds. I think there were nearly 400 total entries and that is pre 49 only. You can bring later cars but can't register unless pre 49.OK time for the pictures.
More. A couple of blurry ones in there but I left them the blue 34 coupe with the flames(one of the blurry ones) belongs to a rodder who has attended all 40 Valla runs in the same car and this year drove up from Tasmania where he now lives. That is a big trip!! And of course he got longest distance award.
Last . On Saturday they close the main street of the local town and have the cars come in for a couple of hours for a display. That's all folks!!
