im getting ready to shoot my galaxie and im trying to decide what i want to do for paint design. what was done in the early to mid 60's (64)? did lace not work itself in until the 70's? were things more watson-esque? many ***ociate metalflake, but was it really that prevelant?

so im asking those folks who were actually there. not just what you see in magazines and such because those cars were more often than not built with money as less of an object...what were the average joes rockin on their low's

    thank you

Lace was a 60's think as well as cobwebbing, heavy flake, etc.

    I hate that answer.

Anyway, I was thinking of doing something a little more dramatic on my newly two-toned '55 Dodge. I ran across this pic on another forum site and I really liked what this guy was doing. Seems like it'd be easy enough and would look really good if it followed some long bodylines of a late 50's or early 60's car.

I'd like to see some pics of some paint ideas.

Jake, if I recall, your's is a '64. I've always thought '64s lend themselves nicely to a panel job with the encircled peak line that runs the length of the body. Maybe a nice candy color over all and in the panel area flake with candy over the top. Run some pin striping around the seams and call it good. Or a fog over flake in the enclosed area would look good to.
    Got any colors in mind?

Also, in the rear I think there is a panel on the right of the fuel filler that says Galaxie and the word FORD above that. I'd lose the FORD script and is there any chance the panel on the left side could be flipped and used on the right also to clean up the rear? I ***ume the two panels are symetrical. I always thought that would really clean things up back there.

yeah my plan is to do some panel fading using the lines on the sides of the body and possibly the trunk. the car is going to stay the same color (but it will look much richer as the paint on the exterior is faded...you can see the orig in the door jambs) and the top will stay white. the fade will start at each of the two body ridges and fade in towards the chrome side spear...fading back in the main body color while the fade is a darker blue/green. the top is going to be metalflaked and potentially laced. thats why i was asking is lace was used in the mid 60's.

the trunk is going to get a large white metalflaked spade mural striped in black painted on it. not an airbrushed picture, but a design, in the corner of the trunk it will say "Aces High" in pinstriped cursive.

oh and the ford script on the hood and trunk will be shaved.

im also going to build my own custom vertical bar grill that looks very similar to the early 60's merc grill people use.

    any thoughts?
