Has anyone seen a luggage rack on a 49' custom 4door?

I kinda think it would be cool to have a rack... something similar to the vw roof racks.

    Just haven't seen one before....

  2. You must have been born post 1980. 40's 50's and 60's roof racks were common place for Family vacations. Then in the 70's they were Factory installed options for most Wagons.

The cl***ic Western Tire roof rack made of 2 wooden boards with suction cups at each end, used to carry a canoe or aluminum fishing boat.

  10. Hay, I think I still have a set of hardware for drip rail mount. I'll look for them. I even have my Avitar sitting to check how well they would work if interested. They are not the suction cup style. Oak cross boards are long gone.

The ones on the red 49 and black 40 are the kind I remember. They had varnished hardwood boards. I picked up a set at a thrift store a year ago, they are in my garage. When I did a search for roof racks I didn't find any although there were lots of other styles. This seems funny as they are the only kind you saw back in the fifties and sixties.

Welp, I suppose if you're restoring your grand father's shubox it would be accurate for the time but man! A roof rack would be the first thing I'd remove from my Grampa's old shoe box ford. Then the spotlights, antennas, fender skirts, bumper over riders etc etc

I wasnt expecting something that nice from what I can see of it, That looks more like the finished product than what I generally think of when I think project. Any chance thats a 40/41 ford under the tarp?
I happened to know of someone lookin for one:D

One thing is for sure---roof racks were never on traditional hotrods. They are the opposite of traditional hotrods

When I was a kid, I would have walked before I'd have driven a car with a roof top rack ! Definitely a family or "old guy" thing.......and now I is one! :D
