has anyone used a custom auto sound radio behind their factory radio bezel in a 56? I was about to pull the trigger but their rep said it would not fit. It looks like the bezel would need to be modified.
I had one in my 56. I was never really happy with it. To me, it's cheap Chinese ****. Mine had CD changer and iPod hook up, neither really worked like I thought they should. The ****ons never worked right and after it sat for about a year while I was working on the engine, it just quit working. I gave it to someone in this group and put a non-working original radio in the dash and an after market radio in the riser under the back seat . I like it much better than the CCC (cheep Chinese ****) radio.
Have you thought about converting tour original radio? There's a guy on the main board that can convert them to am/fm/ipod/Bluetooth.
thanks for the feedback the-stig. I have and here is link that helps you to do that conversion. http://www.instructables.com/id/Add...-player-to-an-O/step2/Background-Information/ A schematic of the radio would definitely help with this but not sure of a reliable source for that. Longroof if you have that guys info that would be great as I really just want to access music off my phone, if it has Bluetooth, even better.
Believe me the custom audio is not worth the money,I wish I had it to do over. They told me on the phone the unit face is chrome and I was good with that,I never opened the box until I was ready to install it,3 years later.I suppose not checking it is my fault but I called and offered to pay restocking fees and they told me that unit was discontinued and they couldn't help me. What I have is off shore junk and I don't even turn it on anymore. HRP
I am very happy with my set up. I converted my stock radio to work with an external amp, crossover and iPod. Info is in post #4 and #13 http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/my-52-54-victoria-build.970076/
voodookustoms, that looks like the ticket. I am doing the same type of thing now, someone put a cd player in my car and I am using the preamp rca outputs to hook up my phone. I actually ran the input for the phone through the ash tray and use that as a dock for my phone. I just really want the look of the original radio with this capability. Is the crossover necessary? I'm not that savvy with stereo equipment.
The cross over was necessary for my setup. It split the iPod into left, right, front and back. Then that goes into the amp. I think if i were to plug it right into the amp, it would have either been all be front or all be back, or bridged and there would be no adjustment front to back.

voodookustoms, I just finished up the same setup that you shared, and I absolutely love this! thanks again!
