How tight can you make a bend in a down tube coming from the exhaust manifold?? I have a 37 Ford Tudor. It has a 350/350. I switched from huger headers back to Ram horn cast iron headers. My question is from the collector bolted to the base of the cast iron header. How much of a bend can I put in that pipe?? I lowered the car.. The exhaust pipe is lower than the frame. I can't slide my foot under the car, because of the exhaust pipe there. I need to come up with that pipe to make it even with the frame. How tight of a cut can I make?? Thanks
Get Donuts tubing , cut weld, cut weld until you get what you need, Ch***is shop , I think they Are in Michigan 1-800-530-9494
With Mandrel bends 1r is about the tightest you will find - so a 2 1/2" tube will have a 2 1/2" radius in the tightest you'll find. Crush bends (muffler shop style) may go a little tighter, not much
Get a u-bend of whatever size pipe you are using from summit, and you can cut and make tighter radius than a pipe bender can do.
How much are you willing to spend on a donut ? This will explain > https://www.pegasusautoracing.com/p...ampaign=1821&gclid=CJbTp-joxM8CFQEzaQodHD4N5A
I have truck rams horns and are turned 45 degrees so makes a lazier bend. Like these. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1966-71-Che...AIR-Smog-LH-/311711373319?hash=item4893721807
This is what I used to make custom headers , from a 1 inch to 6 inches ,not muffler shop junk!! Fabrication tubes Check out their website a lot of neat stuff there
As always more detail would help, as would a photo or two. how close is the "collector" (I presume you are referring to the reducer cone) outlet to the bottom of the frame rail? That distance will determine the od of the bend required to keep the pipe from dragging before the frame rail. As you already have some restriction in the factory type manifold it probably would not add much additional restriction if you were forced to cut the bend partially around the radius rather than using the full 90 degrees. I had a similar problem on a BBO with the WZ manifolds. I bought an auto store 90 degree, then made four or five pie cuts almost to the outside, squeezed it together and welded it up, then trimmed one end to get 90 degrees again.
I built one for my 37 I think it was 5 pieces just to get past the oil filter, I tried to use the angle back cast iron manifold but if I remember it hit something, a lot of cut and grind and cut and scratch your head I think I used 2 1/4 tube. Take your time you'll get it done.
