Hi all - I have a NOS headlight switch for 1956 Cadillac. The terminal for the panel lamps does not power up. Found a crack in the rheostat connecting for that terminal. Does anyone know a shop that could repair this? Thanks.

No, but I just took a 56 Olds switch apart which was very easy, and that rheostat comes right out as the switch "cover" is removed. Nothing to disconnect on the Olds one.

Has to be the same type ? Both 56 big GM? So easy, and no special tools.

I'd look on ebay for a donor that has good pics; try search : "1956 Headlight switch" first, then if too many non-GM, then try 56 Cadillac, then try 56 Buick, etc.

What I can say about my panel dimmer....mine was erratic, I tried sliding fine wet sandpaper on the rotating contacts, and rheostat coiled wire without getting it perfect. I did have to take that ceramic ***embly totally apart, and it has a push-on speed nut that was dicey to get out without breaking something.

anyways, patience paid off; the whole switch is perfect. I also cleaned the points on H/L circuit breaker(easy)

funny....like F&J .....back before EBAY and finding stuff at swap meets....I use to take my Studebaker trucks switch apart....if only to file down the "points" of connection and put it back together.....usually work for a year or so.......
