image.jpeg If you want tube shocks, get a pair of f-1 upper shock mounts . Weld a shock mount stud to your axle. Or get shock mount for your spring perch. So cal tube shocks

Get an equivalent of a 50 Plymouth front shock (a good parts store can look up the number), a pair of 50 Ford F-1 front upper shock mounts, and weld a pair of tabs to your axle that will hold some parts store sourced shock studs. Might need to bend the forged upper mounts to clear your fenders.

very common back then, and works way better than the ugly street rod bolt-on lower mounts that won't stay tight

I personally dont like the way the shackle mount looks. If you want to do bolt on you can get shock mounts that bolt on the bottom of the perch

Or if you have access to a welder you can weld a bung or shock mount stud directly to your axle. I think this way looks the best

I have a 32 with full fenders, and a 33-36 axle I dropped. I know those shackle mounts would not be in the right spot for my own setup.

I don't like that idea you show, a shackle should do one job properly, not two. those add an unusual load to the shackle, therefore, it's half-***.

The bolt-on I was talking about, is the lowers that fit on the bottom of the axle on the perch bolt lower threads. They rotate when the shock gets hit hard over a sharp bump. Some have a keyway to stop the rotation, but it's still half *** in my mind.

Old ways always work, tested over the decades.

Ford pickup upper mounts or homemade, and a shock stud welded under axle, or a drilled hole in axle (which I don't do). Length of shock is key, to finding where the mounts need to be, and to get a good angle on shocks

Here is mine, recent pic, on jack for a better view...don't recall why I took this pic.

Anyways, to use the shocks I had that felt good by hand, and to fit my fenders and axle location, there is no way I could use the welded stud on face of axle shown above by lodaddyo.

I welded genuine shock studs under the I beam(like old days), and you can see that they are spread wider than the bolt on lower mounts that fit on the perch bolt threads. I would never use those, as like I said, one part should do one job, and I don't want the perch bolt doing two jobs...and they DO loosen one side!

You can also see that where my shackle is, there is no way to use that mickey mouse shackle stud thing. Bolt on **** is for bolt on builders who like ordering parts.

My pop used a f-1 shock mount that we shortened and welded the end of a model A headlight bar so its a shock/headlight mount. The shocks are so cal units. IMG_0372_2.JPG
