    Hi,

    I started a new project a 1948 Plymouth p15 special de luxe coupe.
    The serial number and a number on the frame rail are numbers in the range of 1948.

    The flathead has the following nr IND5A253715 * , i found on the net that this is Industrial engine, but i want to know if this engine is also build 1948 or newer ?

    Who knows where to find the informtion about the year identification off the IND flathead.

    Industrial flathead sixes were built right up into the '60's.

    they started before the 60s, but they made them through the 60s.

    been a long time since I messed with a Mopar engine that old, but they did have casting dates on other engines in the 1960s. did you look for that? like 5-12-61 or something.

    The original engine serial number of your car should begin with "P15".
    As it does not, it is most likely a newer unit installed after the original has exhausted for some reason.
    However, the industrial engines starting with "IND5" are the same 23" block with the same short stroke crankshaft resulting the 218cid displacement, most likely exactly same engine as the original.

    Here you'll find some rough reference information;

    At the P15-D24 web site you'll contact guru's who can tell the details

    I think they used the same number on the engine and ch***is originally, but I could be wrong, it's been a while since I messed with them. I do remember the 56 plymouth convertible had a matching body and ch***is number, but I don't remember if the engine number matched.

    It is quite possible that the ...059 number was on the engine.

    The engine you have now, as you've figured out, it not original.
