I'm running a few less leafs on the rear of my 40 with a set of 2" Vern Tardell lowering shackles. I'd like to add a sway bar. I've been unable to determine if the sway bar made by Ch***is Engineering will work for my application. Speedway was unsure as was Bob Drake. I've been unable to get through to Ch***is Engineering. Can anyone shed some light for me?

Isnt the CE for parallel leafs? Not transverse. What is your ride condition? So-called sway bars ( anti-roll bars) Are for body roll. A panhard bar will keep the differential centered under the body especially with longer shackles.

Lots of body roll on corners. Drake advertises a sway bar made by Ch***is Engineering but it's unclear if it's for only parallel leaf set ups.

Ch***is Engineering # 319-643-2655. I was there last week. Phones were ringing and they were shipping lots of parts. Try them again.

With the longer shackles a panhard would do you the most good but a sway bar since you removed leafs would help also..You already have a sway bar in the front..I beleive 46-48 had rear panhard bars which should be adaptable to your 40'..I didn't know it was you that bought the car, one hell of an ign system..

I've been sorting it out.. whole thing is getting rewired soon. I took the front sway bar off since it was rubbing on the lower radiator hoses. I'll be re-a dressing that too soon

If you are running the '40 rear axle & spring, even a modified spring,
the BEST single thing you can do for the '40 is a Bob Drake rear sway bar & shock kit.
Many will poo poo this modification, but if you REALLY drive your car, you need this kit.

I removed my front sway bar once for the same reason and found the body roll so bad I put it back right away. I recommend you just space the radiator up 1/2 to 1" to clear the lower hoses, I did it and it solved the problem without spending the time, money and effort of installing a rear sway or panhard bar. I have the Tardel shackles in the rear also but put on a Weedetr shock kit.

My car has an 8BA in it which is part of the reason why I've had the issue with the radiator hoses

In my opinion, both front & rear sway bars are req'd for good and safe handling............used kit setup for front and rub with lower rad hoses was dealt with by spacing down sway bar, as opposed to spacing up the radiator...........due to exhaust routing, usual rear sway bar for parallel leafs couldn't be used so used a "sprint car" style torsion bar setup which works just fine...........

If you are running stock rear end and spring, be advised that the Drake tube shock/sway bar kit requires a re-routing of your exhaust. The normal cutout in the rear cross member where the exhaust p***es over the axle is blocked by the sway bar mount.

Can someone snap a quick pic of the Drake sway bar installed on their car?

Can't help with the swaybar question, but I gotta say your sedan has the *perfect* '40 Ford stance.

Since you are talking rear sway bars, how does one go about sizing them? Can you get one to big, to small, to stiff? How would one know if it was wrong?

This Drake install was done a few years ago on my '40 coupe.
I don't have an overall shot but these clips will give an idea.
