Haha...most! Rodders wouldn't have a clue. I've been a fan of his since the 80's and 'Classic and Custom'
Talked to him at the GNRS in Pomona - he had a '34 5 window on display that he had just finished - gorgeous coupe. He can do it all!! Check it out!! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/lee-pratts-latest.1014906/
I was just a kid when I found out who Lee was when his Purple Buick was on the cover of SRM. Still have thaat issue and that car is and always will be my favorite Lee Pratt Custom
I saw Lee`s 41 Buick at the 79 Street Rod nationals in Minnesota. 8 years later I had hydraulics on my car(my avatar) at age 17. I`ve been following his work ever since. His car was my favorite at the show. Then again, I`ve always been partial to Customs. Even before I knew what one was.
If you want to see more of his work, he built the 34 coupe for Mike Young that is on the cover of the current Rodders Journal.
I'm guessing that most of us that have commented in this thread have a pretty good idea who we're talking about. If what you're saying is we should all think the new colour is cool because it's Lee Pratt, I'm thinkin' this reinforces my emperor's new clothes comment.
I think most people's hang up on the color is liking the old color better. If it was a fresh build with out the old paint for contrast maybe more people would like it. Honestly the only reason I like it is because it does look like something from the little books and you don't really see that all that often. Was it cooler in the other color? Maybe. Did it transport you back to the same era? Not really.
Don`t put words in my mouth, I just made the statement that I wondered how many people on the HAMB don`t know who Lee is.
Regardless of who built it, the new cream is a bad dream unless some pin striping is added to "balance" the green. The old copper made it "pop".
Lee's a badass simply for making the change. The fact that the two versions of that car are so vastly different yet both are so tastefully beautiful is a testament to the man's genius.
Color is subjective, but brown-paper-sack beige isn't doing it for me on that car. Sorry Lee! But thanks for all the incredible cars you have touched including this one, I'm glad to see you willing to shake things up. Interesting she brought up that name, I wonder if it subliminally popped in her head from butt_reynold's similar transformation a couple of years back. From: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/?p=366
Just wondering, whats the side trim on this version of Larry Ernst Chevy? I googled it and searched from hamb too,but i didnt find any info of that one.
Yep, no worries brother. I'm not trying to put words in your mouth, I just think it's an interesting philosophical question because some people would indeed feel they should like something simply because it was created by a celebrity. Pop culture is full of examples, the hot rod and custom world isn't a lot different.
Flipped over '53 Oldsmobile trim? There are some construction photos on Rik's Archive that show the yet to be cut trim. Notice how it rolls under the rocker, like it does at the top of the Oldsmobile quarter.
The next step in the car's transformation is quad headlights, about a dozen scoops all over, drawer-pull grilles front and back, and radiused wheel wells. Finished off with a bright new paint job of scallops and pinstriping. Then it will be lost for 20 years, and found, to eventually be restored back to the first bodywork with bronze and green colors.
that guy was another jerk for not asking for every ones opinion first ! the nerve !! besides, I let him borrow $5 and he never paid me back.
No, you're not the only one! But I'd definitely loose the green. Now the cream would look good there with the rest black...
