Racing didn't start till after 1:30 today, and high tide is about 40 minutes later tomorrow. Timing pretty much ****s. Didn't anyone consult the tide charts when scheduling?
Unusually high tide set in due to an off shore storm that caused very high surf. It's amazing what transpired today with teamwork from our staff and patience from our racers, A Great Big Thank You Goes out to those who waited. Many cars made p*** after p*** and there was a great deal of Happy Racers. Even though we had not very favorable weather, we still made it happen. All I can say is that I'm glad that I was here..
Just saw on Instagram no racing today....there will be a show at the North camp ground with all the cars and bikes on display. Sent from my QMV7A using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Some nice cars in the hotel lot today....it is a bummer but we are going to the camp ground to drown our sorrows Sent from my SCH-I535 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
You can see how high the tide was last night...the whole beach up to the bluffs was flooded. Sent from my SCH-I535 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Hope the "car show" got better for you. We saw the news on the TROG facebook page, and knowing how limited parking was at North Beach we got over there by about 9:15 so we could get a parking space, and hung out till about 10:30 (and I got a bunch more pictures), about half the cars and bikes were getting packed up and leaving, many left before we did, the place seemed to be emptying out. As we were leaving we could see some hot rods (not racers) and Custom's pulling in to the campgrounds, I thought maybe they invited local guys to bring their rods out. To be honest, we were done. Too much standing around waiting for things to get organized. At this point I had no interest in waiting for some street rods to come in to look at, so we got an early start home, and saw a few of the racers and exhibition cars on 101 heading south. Weather was great though! Wish it was like this yesterday...
Still uploading photos from yesterday and a few from this morning in the parking lot by the beach. the water was still up to the bleachers at the starting line at `11:30 . They raced their ****s off yesterday though and I managed to get about 200 photos but you have to look though the rain drops on some of them. My view wasn't too good for the first hour or so that I was there after waiting in line for 40 minutes to buy T shirts. Idiots that have no clue as to what shirt they want or what ******** size they want sure slowed **** down.
Yesterday was rad...we had a great time getting to stand next to the starting line then walking down the course and checking out the race from different areas. I sure hope they can figure out when they will come back and do it again...we were lucky to witness yesterday and glad we came. Thanks for the photos! I hope you don't mind if I tag onto this thread with my pics, I don't see a good reason to start yet another thread on the topic. So here goes. Friday evening at the North Beach Campground. This T kicked **** at the races the next day, no doubt those tires helped.
More pics from Friday at North Beach Camground: 32 Packard, it ran pretty good, but not quite as quick as the V8 flatties. Hey, it had a whole lot more weight to move...
More pics from Friday at North Beach Camground: You all should recognize this guy... The HAMB's Mr Model T I really didn't get this, I took the pic, but it's like WTF????
Thank you for the update & all the pics. Looks liked the show in the parking area was worth the price of admission!
Saturday morning at the staging lot. I think this was the lot where they were going to let cl***ic cars park close to the event, but because the staging area down on the beach was still flooded they parked the racers up here. This little speedster may have been the coolest car there IMO. Fitted with a cross flow over head valve engine, it was modified at some point in the past to over head cam. A wonderful piece of home brew engineering. There was always a crowd around it, hard to get pics. It ran well on Saturday, taking 2 out of 3 races. Isn't that just a thing of beauty? This roadster had a beautiful V8-60.
Some of the "street" rods (I use that term here loosely, no derision intended) & Custom's at the event Saturday morning. Instead of having their own preferred parking lot they ended up somewhat ****tered around, because their lot was being used to stage the racers.
Had the best time of my life in this wet disturbed but incredible gathering of the coolest old iron ever.
