A huge thanks from the Oilers and The Race of Gentlemen family for your support. Thank you everyone for understanding that this isn't something that is set up the morning of. It's a long arduous journey, especially in a state where there is only one beach left that people are allowed to drive on. Bobby Green and his crew did the heavy pre-work planning and negotiating on this since California was is back yard, so if you see him, you should give him a huge hug, buy him a Corona and ask if his sanity has returned. We feel like the impossible was accomplished this past weekend, and it was due to each and every one of you amazing people. We cant thank you enough. The impossible IS possible!
Awesome event! Pismo was cool terrific vibe from everyone we met. Racers from Jersey and folks from all over the globe for this event. Germany Scandinavia Chile Japan wow. Watching the racers get their bikes and cars through the deep sand out to the shore was fun as hell and going through the pits and talking with the drivers very cool folks...the North Beach party with some outrageous campers and vehicles was very cool as well. The sights, the sounds, the smells of partially burned fuel and oil mixed with salt air it was beautiful! ahhhh Amazing how well these bikes and cars ran, for the most part all of them sounded and drove really solid and most looked fun to drive. This event was miles of smiles! We'll be back next year as I expect to make this an annual event. Thank YouTROG and Thanks Oilers!
Thanks for all the background information Elrod. Most people who attend an event have no idea what is involved, the organising , the financing, just the logisitics in general. Then put on top of that in this case, all the environmental issues, At the end of the day these environmental issues need to be adhered to, because that hopefully allows the event to continue into the future. So I congratulate all concerned with the staging of this event and to those racers and spectators, with or without cars who supported the event. The threads on the HAMB about the event have been the best for a long time, along with threads on the Hot Rod Hill Climb. Geoff aka whodaky

Southern California, the mecca and birthplace of hotrodding on the west coast, the beach...motorcycles with side shifters, posers, real-deals, museum quality cars... and museum cars, recognizable famous faces to many...it was ALL here, and very much alive....and I think the rain actually helped the crowds enthusiasm for the event...like "screw this wetness....we're here to have a blast!" WE HAVE TERRIFIC BEACHES UP HERE IN OREGON....for TROG NORTHWEST....there's a 10 mile open stretch of beach you are allowed to run on all year between Warrenton and Gearhart.....and the resort town of SEASIDE is very nearby for all the support stuff like eateries, motels, shopping, etc. ....PERFECT SETTING FOR TROG NORTHWEST....

Bobby looking over the lunch menu and me being in utter disbelief that all of our ideas, planning and hard work had been devastated 3 times before the event even started, but as Elrod wrote above it was an adventure of a lifetime to bring this world wide history making event to the Hot Rod & Cycle World of today. Met a many new people and saw a bunch that I've been in touch with for 4-5 decades some over at AJ Spurs for a much needed steak dinner. This is after the 1st couple of set ups, looked pretty calm Friday after High Tide.... So this is why we couldn't release the cars/bikes down to the shore, we were darn lucky to have that Hummer. Getting ready to release the cars. Definitely one of my faves. And "Bad Ass Brian Bass" making trax in the sand!!! This Hot Rod has to be heard as close as I was at the finish line in order to be fully appreciated!!!! What a sound!!!!! And now the finish line, my nephew Ian who looked forward to this event, had never been to anything remotely like this and worked this event both Friday/Saturday and without any instruction had to learn real quick how to wave that flag...... His last name is on the side of Elrod's ? Mark coupe And it's Cyclone & McCulloch Equipped. Thanx Elrod. And finally our Starter Gal Sara What a Wet & Wild Weekend!!!!!!!!! Some pictures I took at the campsite. Only got cell phone pictures at the beach due to the level of wetness. Had a great time. I hope the hard working fellas that put it on are able to keep it going next year.
Great photos AldridgeDW They make me wish I had hunted down a parking place and walked to the campground on Sunday even though it would have been a long walk from anywhere we could find to park. The racing may have only been for one day and a short period of racing at that but what a blast to see cars that we have read about or seen on the internet or in a few cases cars with a real racing history and heritage out there making run after run down the beach. That was after seeing them up close in the staging area waiting for the courseup to open. Getting up close looks at two customs that were the subjects of build threads here on the HAMB was a highlight too. Even covered with rain drops those cars are flat beautiful. It was one of those once in a lifetime things that will go down in hot rod history and be the subject of stories for years to come. Checking my notes I drove 2390 miles in a 11 day period of time and took over 500 event photos and probably that many scenic photos between stops at Crater Lake, a trip down highway 1 from Monterrey to Pismo and a trip back up highway 1 and 101 to Florence Oregon where we turned inland in a driving rain yesterday. The wife got to see Crater Lake, San Francisco, Cali and Oregon surf, the Chandler grove. drive through tree and the trees of Mystery along the way.
Right click the mouse or under your touch pad while the arrow is on the image. A window will pop up then click on (save image as) name it and make sure you send it to your pictures on your computer. "walla" You will have it saved to your computer under whatever you name it! Joe
