** anyone that had to deal with these two big problems, and more need to contact the NHRA and voice your complaints - I did. Dave Wallace, Hot Rod Deluxe, will be complaining about problems too. NHRA wanted it done their way, not the way that worked before.

I missed it this year. I was trying to get my Austin g***er running so I could maybe park with Don Waldron and Rob Stewart in their g***er display. From the sound of the pit organization problems (and other issues) I don't feel so bad.
I think I've only missed 3 over the years.
Who did the Cagle and Newhouse car - looks great in the picture! And Veney's Vega too.
    Thanks for the photos JJ.

  4. wow sounds like a real mess. thanks for the explanation on what happened. thanks nhra

Maybe the Bowsers and the Famoso crew should take over the event and leave NHRA out of it altogether. If NHRA and the lawyers reduced and changed the Cacklefest that much for the 25th, by the 30th they will be cackling one dragster at mid-track with 15 ft Lexan walls around it and an air filtration system.
Man, what is this world coming to..........
I've always taken my place along the fence near the starting line for the push starts. The noise, fuel and dust in your face is just like it was at Lions in the old days - Perfect!

NHRA rents the track from the Bowsers thus NHRA makes all the money which is supposed to go towards funding the NHRA Museum. The Bowsers do the March Meet and use the money to keep the track open and make improvments

Amen!!!! Oh ya I forgot about the Chevrolet display in the middle of the Cackle pits....! what a joke! They did give away some polishing cloths(t-shirts)but I overheard an old fellow in the display that was chastising the gal from Chev for not having any 3X shirts!!!! All I could do was chuckle as he and his buddy walked out of the display with their "cloths" under their arms......by Sunday Afternoon, they were revving the SH*&^T out of the Camaro to get some attention, but couldn't be heard over the Cackle cars...HaHa...that had NHRA written ALL OVER IT.

Yep Bruce, I had heard that. But since things are changing these days, I'm thinking the Bowsers could take the event in a better direction than NHRA and the lawyers. Nothing keeping the Bowsers from donating some proceeds to the Museum, maybe in exchange for licensing the CHRR name? If Gibbs retires, I doubt anyone in the NHRA house has the drive to oversee that huge event. NHRA may like the idea of someone else doing all the work and they still benefit.

It's supposed to be a nostalgic event, but by the sounds of it, NHRA is taking the nostalgia out of it, go figure. Anyone know why the NHRA Museum wasn't involved this year?

The shear cost of putting on an event like this is what prevents them from doing both

Maybe they thought they could do a better job of it???
The success of an event can only be measured by who returns the following year. NHRA will be shocked by the results

You're undoubtedly right. They've done such a good job since taking over the track it would be good to see them grow it even more.
I like those Saturday Nite Nitro events.

Jalopy Joker....thanks for all the great pics!!! and sorry to sort of step on your thread regarding the problems this weekend, as there were SOOOO many positives, best bunch of cackle car restos I have ever seen, best group of Fuel Altereds in 30 years, G***ers put on a Great show, and from what I heard, just a ton of exhibition cars going down the track. The guys we got to meet from Finland, England, Australia, Norway, France, NZ, and Sweden just shows that we all speak the same language.....now if those guys had left some of the good stuff in the Swap Meet for us North Americans......

You know the old saying, "if it ain't broke, don't f**k with it". We got wind of the "new plan" to turn the Saturday night push start into a big joke a couple of weeks ago. We decided we wanted no part of it so I cancelled the hotel rooms and we stayed home. Friends left in disgust on Friday and if those in charge weren't such scoundrels they would have put all concerned on notice BEFORE they took everyone's money.
What a shame for both the participants and the fans.

Thank-you ! KOOL Visual History Lesson. Saw the Green Monster ? do a demo run on front straight of Milwaukee Mile, guessing late 50's early 60's, pretty exciting as he did not get slowed down and punched a hole in #3/4 corner wall, ended up under bleachers, don't remember if there was any injury's ? to driver or bleacher people.

Thanks for the great coverage! Probably never make it to the West Coast to see it in person. The HRR in Bowling Green Ky is probably as close as I can get! Joe

The party at the Doubletree was always looked forward to. I missed the last couple and was just sad when we pulled in to the DT and it looked like a ghost town, very sad.
    Shame on NHRA.

    Hi Denny

You know it always been about the ' Talkers and the Do'ers ', the Do'ers build & race the machines and the Talkers screw it up for them

In almost all motorsports like - NHRA - USAC - CART - IMSA - APBA - NASCAR

Like you say what a shame, DND

Mr. Gibbs has already retired from NHRA. His involvement was only with the nostalgia area. He has quit that also as of CHRR this year because of the NHRA meddling. Also fired or quit is Gino and Sally who have been the people who ran and baby sat us idiots in the funny car and top fuel ranks. The only pro left to organize us is Jim who did his best ( and a good job) to keep us in line. Took us 5 hours on Wed to get into the pits from the parking in the dirt. NHRA took over because they finally figured out that It`s a money maker

Events like the Nitefire Nationals, Fox Hunt, Governor's Cup have an opportunity to fill a void. The NHRA is the, "Big Show" but N/TF, N/FC and AA/ Fuel Altereds could do well getting out from under the NHRA... Yes, the NHRA sanctions the tracks, but they do not run the events.
