59 Apache Seat Hi I just picked up an original seat for my truck. It was in two parts bottom and back. It's dark and raining and I've not had time to check it out much. The attached photo is from the internet and is not my seat. 1) How and with what hardware does the back attach to the bottom. Is it a special fastener? If so where can I get it? 2) From looking at internet photos does the original seat go higher than the back window bottom edge on a big window and go short of the window bottom edge on the small window? 3) My seat only has a return spring under the driver side and not the passenger side. Should a spring be on both sides? If so, where is the best place for me to get a replacement? Uh, how do I attach or upload a photo? Attached Images
The hinge bolt is a bolt, with a washer, and a spacer tube that fits between the bolt and the (larger) hole in the hinged arm. The bolt tightens against the spacer, and the arm hinges on the spacer. Only one return spring. Do you have the long rod that goes over to the passenger side, to release the catch on the slider? use the "upload a file" button below to upload a file. Or click the picture icon above, and paste in a URL of a picture that is hosted elsewhere on the internet. and don't worry about high high the seat back is relative to the window. There's not much you can do about it.
Thank you. Where does one get that spacer tube? Is the length specific? And on the inner end of that bolt it is just a regular nut? Does that just press against the upholstery? Yes the release arm frees the seat from the slider on both rails, but neither rail seems to move. I suspect it needs penetrating oil and or lubricant.
Just a bolt washer with a spacer. Can make up something nice at hardware store not sure the thickness of spacer it maybe 1/4 inch each side. And spring is only on driver side. And the seat hight for big back window that how they are. Those seat are standard in small window and big window trucks
The original bolts were a shoulder bolt , 3/8 course thread. I think the shoulder was 5/8 o/d and 3/8 long. They had a 3/4 head. But a 3/8 bolt with a spacer will work, just put a washer next to the head and a fender washer {larger diameter] against the seat. The nut on the cushion is a welded nut . be sure it is secure and the threads are clean. there is no access after the seat is covered. If your going to have it covered tell your trimmer it is for a big window , so he puts a drop on the back so as not to see the hog rings. I have covered way over a hundred of them. Good luck , Jack

I found a project within scope of my current automotive-restoration skill set. Got the back attached to the bottom![emoji23] Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
You have much to learn Grasshopper. Lucky for you there are a few companies that specialize in repro parts for old trucks. Order catalogs and make a list.
