just bought a 1956 mainline and the jack wagon that I bought it from left the pinion nut loose and rear end is trash! What rear end can I go with now? It was the original with 3:78 gears!
What are your skills and tools? The guys will give better advice if you let them know. Easy way out is a used good rear end. The design was changed for 57.
We have a full shop pretty much! Just having trouble finding a rear end that will fit under her! Got to be 52" from inside to inside of drums!
Any early Mustang 8" will fit. The width is pretty close but I think the spring purchases are a little different width. V8 Fordomatic cars had a 3.21 ratio. Good luck.
I've got axels pulled so I'm not sure measurement outside to outside! I've got a 64 fairlane rear end but it's only 51" inside to inside!
Since you didn't fill out your profile we don't know what state you are in,I phave a '54 axle behind my shop that I would let go cheap. HRP
no offense , the inside of the backing plates means nothing.... the measurement of wheel mounting surface to wheel mounting surface is what you need i'm not familiar with a `56 Ford , but i'm sure others on here will advise what rear end to use
I do know a 64-66 Mustang is the right width for the car but the spring pads will need to be moved. HRP
A 57-59 ford 9 inch is the same width and will bolt right under a 62-65 fairlane 54 1/4 inch flange to flange
