Hello, I got a question about this rear main seal. When i search the web for it, it seems there are probably 3 types of seals for this engine? http://www.ebay.com/itm/1942-1968-D...-237-251-265-Rear-Main-Oil-Seal-/300705287401 http://www.ebay.com/itm/1933-52-Dodge-Plymouth-Desoto-Chrysler-6-Rear-Main-Seal-/300446581396 http://www.ebay.com/itm/34-59-Dodge-Plymouth-Chrysler-Desoto-6-Rear-Main-Seal-/380326163154 Wich is best to be used, and what is best... Order this seal at oldmopart.com or somewhere else? I know when i replace this seal i also got to change the oilpan seal. Thank for now Danny
which seal did you use ,i understand this is an old topic but i am also wanting to change the seal in my 52 218 engine
The one on my '60 Edsel was leaking so I bought an 8 ounce bottle of Blue Devil Rear Main Sealer because it had a 60 day full refund policy if it didn't work so I had nothing to lose. I'll be damned if it didn't reduce the leaking by about 90%. The differential was also leaking so I bought another bottle and it reduced that leak significantly too. I'd suggest giving this stuff a try first because with their refund policy you really have nothing to lose. It was $14.99 at Advance and $12.99 at Koi. Good luck....
Thx ,I got my local parts store to order in a M***ey combine engine gasket kit it came with the seal kit rope style Sent from my iPad using The H.A.M.B. mobile app

I had a complete Best brand 23" Plymouth gasket set for the 230 engine I was building which included 2 types of rear main seal........unfortunately the rear main seal on my 1941 Plymouth coupe which had the stock 201 was supposed to be the rope seal and of course it started to leak like a sieve...........so I ordered the rope seal didn't I..........then dropped the sump, pulled the main and found that it had one of the neoprene seals that was in the Best set BUT someone had previously forgot to install the small "ears" on either side of the seal so after installing those it stopped leaking at least for a while............moral of the story?...........yes there are THREE types of rear main seals, and YES check what you actually have before jumping into this job..........also the P15-D24 site has lots of info about this subject.........Andy Douglas
