I tried the search and returned nothing. Has anyone located a source for outside rear view mirrors for a 53 mercury. I am sure several years are the same but not having much luck finding one. Found some on Ebay but they are actually for a 55 chevy.
    Thanks

LOL....I'm ***uming you've got a sense of humor and added some sarcasm with the ebay mirrors.
I'm actually using 67 Chevy...covered the bowtie embossing with a ford blue oval.

I have a Merc mirror, actually came off of a 52 Lincoln.. Problem is no gl***, but base has minimal pitting and head has a dent in the SS but not bad and workable to repair with gl*** out. PM me if interested

The correct Mercury mirrors were for the most part dealer installed. The base is die cast and attached to the fender via a mounting plate and only the head of a set screw showing.. The mirror head is five sided, SS, with a tinted gl*** that is "Crimped" in.. The gl*** actually ***ist in providing tension to the swivel joint. 55 they changed to a cast head and a shrouded mirror.. Also the swivel changed design so the gl*** was not a part of the equation.. The one I have is somewhat of an anomaly as it has the ss head as in 52-54, but it has the 55 swivel, making it possible to install new gl*** with silicone.

Hey guys thanks for the replies. This is a driver car so doesn't have to be exact or correct, just needs to mount and be usable. The carpenter mirror had a one screw mount. I would think there would have to be some sort of mounting plate screwed to the door so it could mount with one screw and that plate, if needed, isn't included. I will try to call Carpenter tomorrow about the base plate and see if, in fact, one is needed. I have one 53 parts car with a mirror and it is two screw mounted directly to the door.

If you mount them on your door be sure that where you mount them does not interfere with your wing windows.

Mine are the same ones, eBay specials for around $15 each and they look great. I had them on and the p***enger side mirror's view was obstructed by the vent window post and I went to peep mirrors.

I love peep mirrors, got one. In fact, if I recall correctly, that was the first thing I ever bought for the 56. For years I struggled with te fact that a peep mirror would look awful on my 68 Opel Rekord. Then I got the Ford..

I like mine a lot once I got used to them. I have to adjust the driver's door side once in a while but they look neat and clean.
