Hi all, I bought a 60 F100 (5-1/2" stud spacing) and it has an unidentified set of steel wheels. No provision for center hubcap and no stampings that I can see. I assume it's an aftermarket wheel of some sort intended for full hubcaps, but maybe not.. Has anyone seen these before and can you identify their origin? Just trying to solve the mystery. Thanks, Aaron
I've seen a wheel like that on a "General Purpose" Jeep, (15" X 5", 5 on 5.5" pattern, plain center, no provision for small caps; 'solid' construction (no 'windows' spaced between the center and rim; 'Solids' is what the wheel vendors call 'em) I noted the large center bore, also.
no....Lincolns also came without clips for those full wheel caps.........two guys for Lincolns...they are not Imperials....
I like those better than the wheels that came on my 61 F100. I can't wait to get rid of these! Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Sorry for the late reply, thanks for all the responses. I guess Lincoln did some weird stuff back before global corporate platforms and bean counters took over. Only bummer is that I can't run a center cap Aaron
They were doing it in the 80s,the 80s crown vics that came with full wheel covers had similar rims that no small cap could be put on. Only the police cars came with the good rims.
Of course you can run hubcaps ... look at the bumps on a Ford pickup or pre '48 car, then mark the Lincoln wheel where the bumps go. You can weld the bumps on & dress them, or drill 3 or 4 holes a couple sizes under 1/4'' where they go & tap for 1/4'' x 20 round head screws ... use stainless .... Close inspection of some '60s Peterson magazine cars show Merc wheels with Ford truck baldies using these methods.
