    You and me, both :D

Yup, getting it outside, to look from every angle is HUGE.

Looks great, I kinda like C9's idea of maybe bobbed rear fender. I do like the long bed, hell you may even be able to haul something :D

Very nice! Almost makes me wish I would have left the bed on my 29 A. Hey what colour do you plan on painting it, if it was mine I'd leave it just the way it is!!! She's a beauty!! I love the model A RPU's

  4. Re-reading what I'd written, I meant rear fenders only with stock length at the back and bobbed at the front.
If the bob ends at frame top level that should help hide the filler panel - which doesn't really need to be hidden.

Cycle fenders up front work as well.

I'm doing a set of cycle fenders for mine, but am doing other projects on it - when I'm not hiding in the house from the cold - and keeping an eye out for just the right set of cycle fenders.

I probably ought to do what I always do and just buy a set of new ones and then not long after I find the right ones at the swap for a reasonable price....

Just as a fwiw, a paper picnic plate makes a terrific template for cutting the corners on the fenders.
    Especially on the outside corners.

The paper plate folds nicely around the compound curves, then mark it with a Sharpie and cut with a 1/8" thick grinding wheel on a die grinder.

Man, that's a great looking truck. It's perfect the way it sits. Then again, I'm partial to av8 high boys that look like the early 40's. Don't change a thing. Looking forward to seeing the new paint.

    Perfect!

I love the dark red on there. I picture it with a drab (brownish) dark green body. All the detail on that car looks great...I hope I can check it out in person when its done.

Jim -- I went back in and dug out my photos of your rpu, and that's looks like what I'm thinking of doing. Maybe I'll use some of those "rivet-bolts" from Jim Benetiz to anchor the panel to the lip of the bed rail. Your car is going to be at Pomona? Right? I'm looking forward to seeing an rpu that was done right...

  12. Very sweet - now my teeth hurt! Don't change the rake or the height of the bed. It's just right as it is. A little utilitarian like and RPU should be. Very nice. I'll add one of these to my list of the 7,539 cars I'd like to build.

That's what I think. The color is a '40 GMC truck color called Oakwood Brown. It has some maroon in it, so it looks good with the wheels and dash -- and it's a real trucky kind of color.

I went round and round (pun intended) on the front tire size. Rears are 700-16s, fronts are 600-16s. I kept thinking the fronts could be 550s -- but right now it looks utilitarian. I think I'll stick with these 600s.

Jeff -- come on down the mountain!

  14. Man that truck is looking great, glad to see so much more progress.

I think the only thing I would change is the oil, after the first couple of thousand miles you put on it:D

    Thanks for the update.

Detonator, your rpu is so cool. It has the look and rake of the Larry Shinoda rpu that's in the Bishop/Tardel book. I like your's better cuz it's on a 32 frame. Nice job!

You're right -- I've been busted. That's the picture I've had up on the shop wall throughout the build. I love that truck.

    STANCE IS PERFECT: PERIOD
    Love long bed RPU's
    Does it ned paint??

The instrument panel is one of the EARLY Stewart Warner Panels, if not the first 5-gauge panels you could go to a shop and buy.
Also found in boats and other applications.

I have one of those also.
It is originaly for back mount S&W gauges. Often called "Auburn Style" by some. I has only one gauge size in common with the Auburn.
The smallest of the 3 in the Auburn is identical to the 4 small ones on this.

Large one in the middle can be found both as Speedo and Tach from S&W. Almost same as a 32 Speedo, but not quite. I bought my panel from klazurfer some years ago. The 32 speedo can easily be made to fit by making a new besel and gl***.

Again.. Thumbs up on your hauler :) :)

I'm embarr***ed when I see one as "right" as yours. Mine has a few concessions since it's going to a new owner to be a daily driver. I love the details on your truck- many that we were thinking exactly the same one. I wish we used BLC's, but my friend doesn't get that. The Arrow's were a middle ground between stockers that wouldn't EVER be found on a self respecting hot rod. The fact that early lights were out-lawed after the sealed beams came out in 1940 seals that deal.

Right now I am wondering what in the hell I sold my rpu for.....Dave, you nailed it dude. I have thoroughly enjoyed watching the build on your truck- you gotta be proud of that little crate. I will come down soon and see it.
I'll for sure build the next one on 32 rails- that just drives me nuts.
    later,
