...so is there anything cool out there? any of yous guys live out that way? what kinda hot rod scene do they have yearly? lots of shows in the summer? hows the weather? the people? just curious.
I was born and raised in So. Cal. and feel that Portland and the N.W. has always been equal or better old car scene. some of the best builders in the country. race, rods, customs, nastalgia, concourse (forrest grove) you name it. of course we just want you to visit, spend your money then go back where you came from (I've been here long enough to speak the native tongue)
Sounds like nuthin has changed. When I was little they used to have a say that if you weren't born there that you were welcome to visit, but then you should go home. But the last time I was home the Washington Valley seemd more like CA than home. When did they start a concourse in F/G.?
There's a weekly cruise at PIR (Portland International Raceway) every wednesday from Mayish to Octoberish, Unless it rains, Then everybody cries and stays home drying and polishing thier trailer queens... Pretty good music scene, (Duff's Garage). Downtown is always hoppin but it's mostly hippies, yuppies and gangbangers.
Lots of cruises and shows during the summer. Lots of rain, lots of hippies, lots of yuppies, housing inside Portland/Multnomah county is way overpriced, lots of scenic roads to cruise on, lots of hunting/fishing, beach is 45 minutes away, Mt Hood is 45 minutes the other way, good music scene, more strip bars than L.A., lots of tweekers, not sure about car clubs because I don't belong to any, lots of micro-breweries, lots of coffee. You thinking about moving out here?
Nothing to see...move along.... LOL No really the we in the northwest re blessed with the best weather ever(don't believe the rain stories.....we have less rain then New York, DC...hell most the eastcoast)...the cars up here are built Rain tough because we drive them all year long.....
I just moved to Portland from SF a couple months ago, so I'm still sort of finding my way. Have to say it's pretty damn nice here and the rain isn't as bad as I feared. The Portland swap meet is supposed to be good... http://www.portlandswapmeet.com/Information.htm so I'll be checking that out in a couple weeks.
Best weather ever? If you like dark cloudy and drizzle. Yeah we have less rain, but that's measured in total inches though. Who cares about that? Measure number of rainy days and you get a better sense of what's it's really like. I've lived here all my life and looking forward to retiring somewhere that has 3 months of crappy weather and 9 months of good instead of the other way around. Back on topic. Kustom, the Portland swap is coming up in April. It's usually pretty big and worth checking out if you are in town.
I moved out of there, last year. Not because I didn't like it, but just because. I think I have spent about ten years there, total. It's a nice city, with a bit of hippy/lefty radical vibe. Coffee, beer and strippers all available should the need arise. It's a good food city. Inside the growth boundry is a bit spendy, as others have said, but no worse than any larger city near a coast. Decent shops, junkyards and the swap meet. I am not really a cruise guy or a club guy, so I can't comment on that. There are enough doofy cuffed-jeans rockabilly folks driving four door Ford Falcons or clapped out Nova's, though. There are a lot of rainy gray days. It either is really depressing or a good excuse to get shit done in the garage. The rain forces that sort of thinking.
Heyyy, I don't know if I should be offended or not? My daily driver is a 63 Nova, but I don't cuff my jeans, in fact, I don't even own a pair of jeans. Besides, I just got here, but it seems like there are more clapped out Ramblers than Novas.
