Projects POSSIBLE 41 PLYMOUTH COUPE IN MY HANDS...

HI All, Might be picking up a 1941 Plymouth special deluxe coupe in the next month, and doing a little research on suspension upgrades, engine swaps, etc... etc... I cant remember for the life of me the names of the shop that sell the swap materials? dirty bird? dirty crow? something like that... or do you guys have any body out there that you use for these old pre wars??

 

Front Suspension is IFS already. You can swap spring pockets to bottom of A-arm for some easy lowering. Rear should be swapped for Cherokee or Explorer 8.8 - same width and bolt pattern.

Any small block will fit, each one has its own issues, mostly around drivers manifold hitting steering box.

 

Are you thinking of scarebird? They offer brake kits.....

scarebird!! that's it.. I thought they had suspension stuff... thanks guys. no motor or transmission with the deal.. just a roller right now. love them Plymouths!! haven't really thought too much about engine/trans options just yet.

 

what year explorer's are the best to find for the rear?

 

Butch's Cool stuff and SRPM has a pretty good selection of engine/****** mounts, rear end kits, brakes, patch panels, etc.

 

that's another one... Butch's... haven't heard of the SRPM.. I will check em out though!

Rustyhope.com is a good source for disc brake conversion kits, and front shock relocation kits. And if you check out the P15-D24 forum, you'll find posts about upgraded sway bars, engine swaps, R&P steering conversion, etc. Good luck with your project, and please post lots of pictures.

 

My Brother had one ,had to offset small block to clear the steering. Someone put a torsion bar front end under it .Drove like **** but a great looking car!

 

Man... i must have been away too dang long.. forgot about rusty hope and the P15 forum... i am embar***ed now.. i have had at least 4 of the 53 cranbrooks, 1 54 wagon, a 56 savoy, and a 56 wagon. This will be the first 40's i have aquired. There is something very special about the 41 coupe for me. They make a bad *** Kustom. I HOPE this all works out!!

 

I hope you get the car! They do make a very bad *** kustom and in my opinion they don't get the recognition they deserve. I have a '39 Plymouth coupe deluxe, just got it back together and driving this summer. It's destined to be a kustom at some point in its life. Mine still has a flathead 6 in it. The original engine needs a total rebuild so i put in a '53 flathead i had laying around. The car is fun as hell to drive with the stock brakes, rear end, and 3 speed column shift transmission. It'll cruise at 55 all day long. I did a bunch of body work and rebuilt most all of the mechanicals. So if you do get the car and have questions feel free to PM me. Good luck.
