hello gang, wondering if anyone could guide me in the right direction in finding the pictured seal. Van pelts have helped me out quite a bit and got me the dust seal but I think the half moon seal is obsolete. Thanks, Pat
looked at Mac's catalog ....is this the rear seal ?.....looks like they have the early and B engine stuff....also try the monthly "banger" thread here on the HAMB.....
Looks like the rear dust cover used in conjunction with a truck pan on an 8rt. I thought Van Pelt's had them but it was a while ago when I was looking for one.
This is the listing from Van Pelts I found on line. Don't know if its current or not. 8RT-6410 Retainer (dust seal to flywheel housing) - 10½" long (bolts not included) PIC 1948-52 truck 32.00 8BA-6411 Dust Seal (flywheel housing) - p***enger car housing PIC 1949-53 car + 1953 truck 18.00 8RT-6424 Dust Seal (flywheel housing) - truck housing PIC 1948-52 truck 9.00
Call Jim at ford parts obsolete in So Cal he will have them or tell you were to get it. I was just there yesterday. Sent from my SM-G900V using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Here's the deal......we have the metal piece in stock. It's no longer available with the dust seal or the packing. The dust seal is available separately, but the packing is not available anymore. We're going to try to locate a source for something that will subs***ute for the original packing but, for now, it's not available.
Mac...have you tried graphite packing for fire pumps...it comes in sizes from 1/4", 3/8, 1/2 etc. in one pound boxes. Let me know if you haven't and I will send you some pieces as samples. It should work fine for that. You can get it in Teflon also, but ive found it to be hard on the shafts, causing undue wear, where the graphite style does not. we use this stuff by the box fulls when repacking fire pumps..let me know Ron
I don't think there is any rotating part that fits against the half-round opening with the groove for the packing seal. The original piece was rectangular in cross section and was simply pushed into the groove in the pot metal retainer. I think I've found a source for the material in neoprene. Will order some in to try it out very soon. Thanks for the offer Ron.
No problem Mac...let me know if you change your mind....got my ****** parts yesterday, gives me something to do tomorrow thanks Ron
