Hey guys I have a sort of simple question. I have bought paint for a project - ready to paint soon. I have decided I would to tint lthe paint to be a chocolate brown versus maple brown. Here is my conundrum: this is a acrylic enamel which is no longer legal for shops to shoot in CA. I would like to know if anyone could help me figure out how to get this color tinted? I was told paint retailers don't offer this any longer in CA. Thanks in advance for the help. Sent from my iPad using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
this is tricky, it is not just add a little this or that. the color may change in a direction you don't want. is it metallic?
The conundrum is that in CA there is no acrylic enamel tint. Can you guys get acrylic enamel tint where you live? Sent from my iPad using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
By the time you ship the paint somewhere pay someone to play aground with it to get the colour you want and then ship it back to you it's probably not much more to buy new paint. Having said that you might contact Paint Guru on here and see if he can help. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/members/paint-guru.272550/
What brand of paint and color code/number? Having the formula for your color might give you an idea which toners to add.

Hate to say it but that's why you don't buy paint until you are 100% certain what colour you want because you need someone who really knows what they are doing to re-tint paint. There is no formula like there is the first time they mix it.
Very true, my dad was a painter for 35 years. If he was still here he'd be able to take care of it. My bad, hopefully I can find someone with his type of experience to tint it. Sent from my iPad using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I'm not from CA and I don't know everything about paint availability, but, even though it's not legal for a body shop to spray certain paints, due to VOC laws, and such, often going to another source you can buy it. And often hobbyists are exempt from some laws, because they are not "gross polluters". I know lacquers are still used and available in CA, to furniture refinishers, guitar refinishers, etc. Perhaps acrylic enamels are still available for industrial purposes? On the other hand, if you have a paint code or mix number, you just order it from out of state. Again. as a hobbyist, you are not using enough of it to warrant strict enforcement.
