    Hi Hambers

I have a Columbia Overdrive I want to use in my pickup project, but are looking to control via a toggle switch on my dash that will turn a vacuum solenoid connected to manifold vacuum either on or off.

I have a few questions that hopefully you guys can help me with.

1: With the original clutch, dash pull switch setup, does it use full manifold vacuum to pull the plunger in the Overdrive or was it reduced somehow? (maybe to stop plunger slamming at each end?)

2: Once switched does the vacuum stay on the vacuum plunger, or is only applied when moving it from end to end?

Hope you understand what I'm asking.

    cheers julian

I got nuthin, but I'm curious about Columbia rears.

I'd look into how the Woodward Roadster was done. That's the most recent and highest level finish car I've seen with a Columbia rear end in it.

  3. Here's some literature to help you out. Seems that it used full manifold vacuum...

Speak to John, http://www.columbiatwospeedparts.com for original parts and information, very helpful.
I am not sure if you are using original controls, if not, I have a columbia in my 35, I did not have any original controls so I used a Pollock 6 port fuel valve for dual gas tanks.
John sells them but they are easily available, I get into top gear, depress clutch, flick the toggle switch, release clutch and I am in overdrive.
    Good luck.

    Hi All
Thank you very much for your replies and PM's, its sounds like the Pollak 6 Port Valve is the best item for the job.

Has anyone got a diagram on how they plumbed it up, by any chance?
    Cheers Julian
