I see that there are kits to replace the rear spring bushings & shackles. Has anyone done this and if so, how big a job is it? Can I do it without removing the springs from the axle?
Also, are there any better bushings other than rubber? Like that hard plastic?
    Not sure what that's called.
    Thanks
    Jim

Not too bad a job. The springs can be left in the car.

They have 'em, you just need to provide a measurement. If you get polyurethane bushings be sure to get some silicone grease and slather 'em up. They'll drive you nuts squeaking without it.

    Ok
    Thanks Dob
Thought they might be better than the original rubber stuff

The "original rubber stuff" was ok...it's the new rubber stuff I worry about. Most of us are replacing the bushings for the first time in the 60 year life of the cars. I'm not gonna worry too much about what happens 20 or 30 years after I'm gone.

They do not have the give that rubber has so you will have less sway and improved handling with the polyurethane.

Whatever you do don't let anyone talk you into aluminum bushings.

    Hi Zapato
Never thought of that. Must be a race-only thing, huh?

Not a good thing if you have tooth fillings. Made a set for a friend years ago ,press fit , and it was the harshest ride I've experienced to this day. But it did launch really well.
